I’ve been trying to find up-to-date information on women being allowed into the SEALS; nothing I’ve found dates earlier than ‘08. I know the law hasn’t changed, but have there been any advancements?
Considering I plan to move forward with a military career far before this law will ever change, it’s not a personal hope/dream for me in the near or even distant future. Just curiosity.
1: I’ve never seen G.I. Jane. It has been recommended though and I look forward to seeing it.
2: I do appreciate all of the opinions, but there were enough of them in ‘08 and the years before it. So let me rephrase my question:
Are there any *facts* surrounding women and the SEALs that has been made public in the year 2009?
Not to sound unappreciative, but I’ve read these answers phrased eighteen thousand different ways, and opinions aren’t really so helpful. Enlightening, sure, but helpful.
Thank you.
Pardon me, *unhelpful.
no you big dummy

No there have been no further advancement for women trying to become NSW operators.
There will be no advancement for women in this area, either.
There is a reason for these things, you know.

No. Women are not allowed in direct combat jobs, careers, MOS’s or AFSC’s. Special Ops/Forces/Warfare and what have you are just one several jobs they are not allowed to do. There is no indication by anyone that this will change soon, or is even being considered.

The day a woman plays a down in the NFL is the day we see a woman SEAL. Remember, as top women get in better shape, so do top men, and SEAL standards are set at the TOP men. Notice that there’s no females competing with the males in the Olympics? Ever wonder why?

You have watched the movie GI Jane way to much

Sorry No. The reason is because women can be used as a weapon against men. So if you are captured you give the enemy leverage. Cause no man wants to see a lady get hurt.. Thats also why no women can join infantry MOS’s. Sorry but NO…

By Federal policy, women are prohibited from being in direct combat roles…… and while I personally feel that policy is arcane….I do not see it changing anytime soon… they are not even discussing it
Women are not allowed to be action members of any of the military elite units. ( SEALs, Special Forces, Rangers etc) They can serve in support roles, but not on the teams /action elements.
I find this a bit humorous because in unconventional warfare everyone is subject to combat….
If a woman can hack it….let her pack it
One rule for everybody…..no special treatment
As to a woman being a weaker sex…. Read Ashley Montague’s book on that subject….. if men had to give birth; we would be extinct
When police forces were forced to integrate we bitched and complained…. then we discovered there are some situations ( Domestic disputes and bar brawls….etc) where they often are more effective than their male counterparts
There "might" be one exception to the rule….. do not know but I would not be surprised
Delta…."the unit that does not exist"…. might have some female operatives….. the Russian Spetznatz has females…. other elite foreign elite units have female operatives….. it would not surprise me if Delta took advantage of the non-female stereotype and fielded agents of the fairer sex…. they write their own rules….. and when one of them dies…..you will never hear about it ….male or female

No advancements, no changes. I honestly don’t know how to phrase it to your liking. No, women are not in the seals. This is the official website that makes it clear for you http://www.seal.navy.mil/seal/gender.asp x. Why don’t you try for Navy EOD, you will be required to go to airborne, SPIES and diver school. These guys are highly respected and they accept women. But if you go this route, you better put up or shut up, this ain’t for feminist with something to prove, it for those who are mentally tough and physically fit who are willing to take on danger.

due to the tiny, tiny, TINY percentage of men that can withstand the mental and physical duresses of the SEALs, and the tiny percentage of women that can compete on an equal level of fitness with athletic men, it’s simply unheard of for a woman to be able to keep up with a navy SEAL. if you think it’s sexist then you’re just fooling yourself. women not only have less muscle and quite obviously less testosterone, they have periods and are more swayed by emotions…there’s no place for this in the SEALs. i DO think women should be allowed to try out, but i’m of the opinion that the amount of women that would pass the standards right alongside men would prove the venture to be a waste of money and time. i think women should be allowed to fight on the front lines with men as long as they can keep up with no exceptions or handicaps allowed, but i’m not too bothered that there are only men in special forces.
