I was delighted to receive a gift of the reissue of this video in 1995, that is until I watched it in all its “pan & scan” desecration. It is truly a joy to leer this DVD (VHS is now available in widescreen as well) in the lawful format with all the extras. But all that aside, this is a towering, neglected masterpiece of American cinema that virtually achieve director Sydney Pollack on the way and established Jane Fonda as the premier American actress of the Sixties and Seventies. Who else could have captured the tragic essence of the bitter, beaten Gloria but Fonda? View her especially in the final elimination round as she desperately (and literally) carries her ailing partner around the floor in a final attempt to accumulate the stout prize and (symbolically) maybe give life one more try. Fonda never sentimalizes this sizable character as a lesser actress would have been tempted to; no simple answers or easy forgiveness will do for Gloria–she is too essential to be trivialized. Red Buttons, Susannah York, and Gig Young are also excellent in supporting roles; the cinematography and music also deserve kudos. If you haven’t seen it, do not miss this American classic and one of the century’s greatest actresses unbiased entering her prime. How we do miss Jane.

In this age of “Reality” TV shows like “Survivor”, in which “The Most Devious and Unscrupulous Person Wins” for a enormous prize of a million dollars, the grim reality of the Enormous Depression makes inconsequential dreck like this contemplate like a scoot in the park. Sydney Pollack’s “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? “, based on the novella by Horace McCoy, is a harrowing heartbreaking, and unforgettable experience. State in Southern California in 1932, “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? ” is the legend of a marathon dance, and the desperate people who participate in it. For those of you who don’t know what a marathon dance was, couples had to dance for 2 hours, prefer a 10 limited fracture to sleep or eat, and then dance again….and again…and again. These grueling endurance contests went on for weeks, and the last remaining couple on the dance floor would acquire the Stout Prize…if they were level-headed alive and/or collected conscious enough to claim it….while spectators watched the whole grotesque present.

Jane Fonda (in the performance of her career, IMO) plays Gloria Beatty, an embittered young woman who has had more than her glorious portion of hard knocks. Her dance partner is the dreamy-eyed and naïve country boy Robert Syverton (Michael Sarrazin), Among the other contestants are a flinty, middle-aged sailor (Red Buttons), aspiring actress Alice LeBlanc (Susannah York) and her partner Joel (Robert Fields), and hayseed couple James and Ruby (Bruce Dern and Bonnie Bedelia) . Presiding over the dance is the cynical emcee Rocky (Gig Young, in an Oscar-winning performance) The action of the film covers the weeks that transpire during the dance, and the physical, emotional, and mental toll that it takes on the contestants is, quite simply, horrifying. These people were struggling for their lives, when objective the prospect of having a meal was a very precious thing, not to mention a job, a home, some self-respect. Dreams are shattered, someone dies during this hellish dance (Red Buttons’ death scene, from a massive heart attack during “The Derby”, a grueling track run, is unforgettable), and Alice LeBlanc, whose somewhat fragile grip on reality finally gives arrangement, finally loses her mind. And there’s calm more to advance, folks!

The performances are profitable and disturbingly believable. Jane Fonda’s performance isn’t merely a performance…it’s a fist in your face. Gig Young isn’t merely smarmy, he’s impartial someone who has seen it all, and who probably cant muster up any sorrow anymore. The supporting cast is tremendous, including Allyn Mclerie, Michael Conrad, Al “Grandpa Munster” Lewis, Madge Kennedy, and Paul Mantee. Director Pollack wisely shot the film in sequence, and the actors gape like they’ve been to Hell (and not necessarily befriend) by the film’s extinguish. The production and costumes are very good, (tho the men’s hairstyles belie the year in which the film was made, 1969, they’re not quite right for the 1930s), the music is not only lawful, but the choice of songs is quite poignant indeed (”The Best Things in Life are Free”, “I Found a Million Dollar Baby in a Five and Ten Cent Store”) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?! Click Here

The relate and sound quality on the DVD are grand, and the film is presented in its true widescreen format. Sadly, there are no extras on the DVD, which is a pity.

This is a must-see film for people seeking to recognize true-to-life drama, and it is also a reminder of how fortunate we are these days. My parents lived through the Depression as children, and they were not easy times. This is definitely not a “feel pleasant” film…but then, we can’t always be glad idiots, can we?

THE BLUE BIRD was Twentieth Century-Fox’s acknowledge to MGM’s THE WIZARD OF OZ. Shirley Temple was originally mentioned for the role of Dorothy in OZ, though Fox was leary about releasing her from her contract.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Blue Bird! Click Here

Based on the play by Maurice Maeterlinck, the record recounts one unlit and inflamed microscopic girl, Mytyl (Shirley Temple) who journeys with her brother Tyltyl (Johnny Russell) to come by the ‘bluebird of happiness’. Joining the children on the quest are the children’s pets – cat Tylette (Gale Sondergaard) and dog Tylo (Eddie Collins) who have been magically changed to human-form.

Just like in OZ, the film changes from drab black-and-white to lovely and rich Technicolor, though OZ is of course the first-rate of the two. Shirley Temple is given more of a dramatic range to work with here, playing a runt girl with rougher edges and thus more ‘real’ than her previous film roles.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Blue Bird! Click Here

Gale Sondergaard is deliciously-devious as the children’s cat, and Spring Byington is perfect as Mummy Tyl. Sybil Jason who co-starred with Temple the previous year in THE Small PRINCESS, plays Mytyl’s afflicted friend Angela.

Attacked by critics and a failure at the Box Office at the time of it’s release in 1940 “The Blue Bird” has with time been redeemed and is now quite rightly viewed as a classic film of it’s time containing one of Shirley Temple’s most keen performances. The public and valuable indifference to the film at the time of its release had alot to do with the fact that Hollywood’s formerly adorable moppet and sweetheart of the depression years was now playing a selfish young girl who is only reformed reach the conclusion of the myth and also because film’s less upbeat myth suffered when inevitably compared with “The Wizard of Oz” released fair the year before. I truly esteem this film with its strong message of appreciating what we actually have in our lives as opposed to always thinking other things are better. Shirley Temple I own, has never been better than in this slightly older more serious role made objective as she was unfortunately slipping from being Hollywood’s number one attraction at the Box Office. This film’s failure, combined with Shirley’s declining popularity finally broke the long string of successes Twentieth Century Fox had enjoyed through the 1930’s with Shirley Temple films and after one more unsuccesful release with “Young People”, also in 1940 the reign of Shirley Temple as the Box Office Queen of Hollywood was definately over forever.

Certainly the “The Blue Bird” lacks the mountainous songs and prove bizzy appeal …but its theme is a noteworthy more serious one with indeed many morbid qualities to it. I acquire the two should be viewed as totally separate. …The whole production is a beautiful feast for the eyes. The sumptous sets, attractive color and the costumnes do this film a gawk for the eyes. Never has there been a more lavish Shirley Temple film. The graveyard scenes are very eerie and very well done and when Temple along with her younger brother played by child actor Johnny Russell visit the land of luxury the sets are unbelievably lovely . Nigel Bruce and Laure Hope Crews lend their much talents to the scenes in the land of luzury and Gale Sondergaard makes a deliciously substandard Cat.The film, despite the two young children starting off as selfish individuals, has many touching moments in particular when they visit their long tiring, broad parents. It is a very dazzling scene which stresses the importance of family ties even after death and it never fails to fade me.The special effects in the film of the grand forest fire, people being turned into animals etc are top notch and give “The Blue Bird” a magical quality that can be enjoyed by all.I mediate it is a film that should be in all lovers of family films collections. …I contemplate you will fancy “The Blue Bird” even if you aren’t a fan of Shirley Temple but unbiased cherish lavish well made classics from Hollwood’s golden age when such things were done so well and with so remarkable care.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1GFNXJ233892N Inspect a clip from all 4 aquariums and resolve for yourself.

I’ve bought several best selling aquarium DVDs, but this DVD AQUARIUM WIDESCREEN (SHOT IN HD) stands out from the others. The vibrant colors and clarity of water accomplish graceful underwater scenes. Numerous fish of various size and colors float or swim naturally. I particularly loved the school of petite blue fish in the Crystal Creek aquarium. The Reef Magic, Crystal Creek and Amazon Adventure aquariums are knowing, entertaining, and sharp to contemplate. Each has 4 different sound tracks: bubbles, ambient ethereal, ambient piano (my accepted), and lounge music to fit your mood or occasion. The novel 4th aquarium Blue Moods is a night aquarium which might work well in a soft lit room providing a tranquil presence.

Just remember this is a standard DVD which can ONLY play standard definition or 480p lines of resolution. (There is NO Design to play HD on standard DVD.) However, it does eye a lot sharper than a DVD shot in standard definition since it is starting out with twice the detail. With that said, the only diagram to procure HD (in 720p or 1080p) is to win a fresh BLU-RAY or HD-DVD player and catch a BLU-RAY or HD-DVD copy of this aquarium. Those expecting HD on a standard DVD will be disappointed. They will have to wait for the the Blu-ray version coming soon in behind 2007 or early 2008.

This movie is really a cycle of 8 films that speed nearly 8 hours–and I have to admit: I popped in the first DVD one evening to study what Czech filmmaker Jan Sikl possibly could have made out of sincere home movies–and– Well, about 8 hours later, I discovered I had watched the whole thing in a single big gulp.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Private Century! Click Here

What’s so special here? This film is not violent. Unlike almost any other film I’ve seen about WWII or the conflicts people faced during Communist rule, we don’t behold any tanks or loyal gunfire here. (Actually, there’s simulated gunfire in one of the 8 chapters about a family who loved to bootleg American Westerns–then afflict up shooting their enjoy Western shoot ‘em ups, when they couldn’t win any more of the precise stuff under Communist censorship.)

What Sikl has accomplished here is an mammoth project to archive an ocean of Czech home movies, dating serve to the 1920s. Then, from that bulging archive, he looked for family stories that would sketch “true life” portraits in various periods of the 20th Century. THEN, he had to go relieve to the families and conduct long interviews, plus other forms of biographical research, to sort out what all those random film clips “meant.”

Buy,Download, Or Stream Private Century! Click Here

AND THEN, he chose his final 8 chapters to consume us all the arrangement from the 1920s and the dawn of home-grown movie making to the eventual drop of Communism most of a century later.

Special thanks goes to Facets Video, the nonprofit film group, for adding a terrifically proper chronological booklet to the DVD case. With that booklet in hand, viewers have a handy reference guide to buy out how one family’s yarn intersects with another–and how all of them intersect with milestones in world history.

But, listen! This isn’t a “history lesson.” Don’t mediate of these films as “teaching” you Czech history. Far from it! These are 8 very consuming family stories–actually covering 6 different families in all. Yes, there’s comical stuff here–the main reaction we might associate with the best in home movies. But there’s also achingly evocative footage here. Enormous beauty. And also some haunting, creepy and flat-out disturbing scenes as well. As a viewer, I was taking in Sikl’s narrated version of these films on the TV screen–at the same time my mind was racing to have in subtext and speculate on the darker doorways opened in various scenes. Quite a creep through time, plot and culture!

The truth is, I unbiased couldn’t terminate watching until it was done. And perhaps you’ll accept the same thing. Almost certainly, you’ve never seen anything like it. So, go on! Order a copy–and luxuriate in something truly different.

I’ve always loved this exhibit proper from the beginning of its urge on Cartoon Network. Assuming they stick with 16 episodes like they did with the first DVD state, they’ll be:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Aqua Teen Hunger Force – Volume Two! Click Here

Mail Order Bride
Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future (alot of people don’t like this one, but it’s one of my favorites, especially with Danzig guest starring)
Super Computer
Super Birthday Snake (another fave, “You so freakin’ did!”)
Super Bowl
Super Hero
Super Model
Super Spore
Super Sirloin

Super Squatter
Super Trivia
Broodwich
Meatzone
Universal Remonster
Total Recarl
Revenge of the Trees

With fair 10 more episodes after these 16, I wonder if they’ll include them with this station or wait to design 6 more–I don’t peer any more episodes on the horizon, and their last episode entitled “The Last One” kind of makes me skeptical, unless I’m unbiased missing the point, whatever.

Anyways, find this as soon as possible! It’s even more hilarious than the first residence. And here’s hoping they collect around to Station Ghost Volume 2 soon. Sealab 2021 Volume 1 is coming out the same time as ATHF2, so it’s possible SG is in the works.

I fair received my pre-ordered copy of the CD/DVD combo from Tribeca. I watched the video yesterday! I loved it! I attended the concert in Anaheim on September 29th and the DVD is an top-notch reminder of the most astonishing and arresting concert I have ever attended. Seeing Ricky on stage in his native Puerto Rico was a thrill. There are two songs that really stand out for me on this DVD.

First is “La Bomba” I was totally blown away at the concert to view this number done at demolish neck accelerate. The regular release was done in about 4.5 minutes. The MTV Unplugged release was slightly slower and ran about 5.5 minutes. In the Shaded and White tour they did the whole number in probably 2.5 minutes! I stood there in anxiety as I watched it live on stage and laughed so hard I almost fell out. It’s captured here on video for posterity! Gigantic display Ricky!

The second ample thing was to peruse La Marie insist “Tu Recuerdo” with Ricky. When they recorded the song for Unplugged she had honest undergone breast cancer surgery and they hadn’t been able to rehearse before recording it. She did an capable job then. Here we are a few years later and she has recovered very well and looks BONITA! It was spacious to glimpse her healthy and cheerful, they really shared a moment on stage in PR and I deem you’ll relish it! That alone is worth the note!

As someone who lived in San Francisco for ten years and spent time in the Mission, Chinatown, and Hunters Point, this movie is not only spirited, it’s also an extremely lawful portrayal of life in these particular neighborhoods.

If you’re a San Franciscan, you’ve got to examine it. If you’re not from SF, but are though-provoking about what’s beyond the tourist brochures, this movie is it.

The only thing missing is documentation of the insanely infamous political culture of the city, but hey, the film maker covered a lot of ground.

This movie is enormous! Gritty underbelly sort of chronicle. Typical Spike Lee “proper life” tale played by guys you occupy. Not a tickled ending kind of movie but well worth the look!

A couple of years ago, I never belief about buying this series, but having the chance to remove the perfect collection seemed to safe to pass up. I gave this series a shot, and what can I say about it? Astonishing!

This series has almost everything in it, action, adventure, some mystery, comedy, and even romance. Blue Seed shouldn’t be underestimated for being an older anime, since it came out in 1995, and was later released by ADV Films in 1997. I really enjoyed going through the 26 evenly passed episodes, the characters were fantastic and memorable, and the ending fits the series well. There isn’t alot left hanging, which means this series comes to a satisfying conclusion. The characters are really likable, especially the relationship between Momiji(The heroine), and Kusanagi(…) . Momiji is the clumsy but mettlesome girl(Unlike other magical girls), while Kusanagi is the hero who comes to put the day,(…) . One cannot back but laugh when he peeps at Momiji’s pantys under her skirt, one can obtain a agreeable kick out of that.

If you are an anime fan who has agreeable taste, then collect Blue Seed when you can, you won’t regret it.

After only having the first three tapes, I decided I was going to win the DVDs. Budget was always a misfortune until I found this boxed site…

The series is about a diminutive, secret government organization that protects Japan from a rush of mythological plant-based creatures called Aragami. Momiji is the only one who can protect Japan because of her family’s bloodline. Kusanagi was created to protect Momiji and her sister Kaede. However, Kusanagi wants to be free of that and is more involved in trying to raze Momiji. He mercurial returns to the role of protector within the first few episodes (out of 26) .

I found the series to be very delicious, and it seems to borrow elements from the movie, Green Epic Ran. I can’t really earn a comparison without a risk of revealing the endings of both. The styles are somewhat different so I can’t promise that if you like one, you’ll like the other. You might glean the stories arresting though.

I did experience some technical issues with the DVDs. If I chose Japanese with English subtitles, the settings would reset succor to English dubbed with no subtitles at the beginning of the next episode. I also had a jam on the 3rd DVD. After the 3rd episode, one of the Omake Theaters appeared. When it finished, I was taken to the Extras menu instead of the next episode. However, if I simply skip ahead to the next chapter finish, it does seize me to the next episode like it should. I usually skip the opening and closing titles after I’ve seen them several times (especially when watching all episodes straight through) so this isn’t a major danger.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Blue Seed – Perfect Collection! Click Here

If you recall the dubbed version, this is a enormous DVD edition. Many of the usual ADV hiss actors are here. Some you may perceive from Evangelion or Gunsmith Cats. Amanda Winn does the English train of Momiji. (Amanda was Rally Vincent in Gunsmith Cats.) Tiffany Grant’s Kome is not her best performance. Tiffany Grant seems to be known best for Asuka in Evangelion. She also provided the exclaim for Becky in the dubbed version of Gunsmith Cats and Chocolat in Sorcerer Hunters.

If you remove subtitles, you can only hope the spot was with my DVD player. Resetting things to Japanese with English subtitles after each episode could find frustrating. I have not checked to notice if selecting Spanish was any different.

I judge this is one of the worst DVD attempt by Universal Studio. They have totally ignore the fans of this movie. The record transfer of this movie to DVD was not up to the standard. And why in the world they will only release this in Rotund Cover format only? What happen to the Widescreen format? I am clear many of us here like to gaze this movie as it meant to be seen. I felt like cheated by the studio. I should have read the glowing print..”FULLSCREEN” I suggest not to take this dvd and wait for better quality dvd version of this movie. I deem Arnold should say something to the studio..”What Ah you thinking?!!”

Great flick, pleasurable for all ages, and above all else, it’s SCHWARZENEGGER!!! I would really like to peruse a widescreen special edition of this film, but Universal is severely lacking in that department. The relate quality isn’t that enormous and it’s only available in fullscreen pan and scan. But it’s a tall film either map.
