Remember all those conventional movies where the swashbuckling hero swoops down to the rescue and saves the day for one and all, defeating the enemies and getting the girl all within a few hours’ entertainment? “The Screen of Zorro” is a testament to those movies, embodying all of these characteristics in its shapely sage and exhilarating action sequences. With a powerhouse cast that seems as if they were born to play the parts they play, as well as strong music and a solid anecdote, Zorro once again rises from Hollywood deterioration to achieve the day in a movie that is genuine, feeble fun from beginning to demolish!

The old-fashioned Zorro account is given a unusual twist with this film, which begins with Don Diego de la Vega, the current and legendary Zorro, saving a group of prisoners from execution in the town square and leaving his stamp on his nemesis, Don Raphael, warning him to leave and never return. Raphael does leave, but not before killing de la Vega’s wife and taking his child, also having him imprisoned. Many years later, Raphael returns, “daughter” in tow, to name himself the recent governer and to obtain distinct his past enemy is all but alive in his prison. Through low craftiness and cunning, de la Vega escapes, only to leer his life is no longer what it once was.

His venture into the public brings him to the attention of one Alejandro Murrieta, who quarrels with him in the marketplace and then resolves himself to friendship. The two do section a past: on the day of Zorro’s last battle, Alejandro, along with his brother, saved him from death. Now, Alejandro is distraught and torn with revenge for Captain Harrison Treasure, the murderer of his brother, and agrees to select on the shroud once ancient by de la Vega, who in turn will drawl him the art of fighting with honor and grace.

The movie is one of those tributes to the archaic movies of the past, which played out the yarn of a hero who won all the goods and the girl in the ending. This one admittedly involves a few more characters than those faded movies, but that’s not to say that they don’t each play a special allotment in the advancement of the movie. The romance, tale scale, action sequences and obscene wit are all show, making this a very interesting and memorable movie experience.

The advancement of the site lies within the external battle between Raphael and our two heroes, who devise idea after notion to bring him to his downfall. They glance that he has made plans of tricking Santa Anna out of his enjoy land, thus setting the stage for the impending climax which pits expedient against unfriendly. The characters are all given the chance to become complex and quick-witted, which is notable in a movie like this. As they originate to outmatch one another, this adds on to the movie’s tension over who will earn out in the kill.

The settings and music have a sizable accomplish on the gaze and feel of this movie, which takes position in the 19th century. The sets are rotund of artistic influences from Spanish backgrounds and artists, giving it the apt notice and feel of the time period. Costume get also adds to the grandeur and pomp of the aristocracy as well as the impoverished conditions of the terrible, adding to the inequity between the two differing demographics. The music, calm by James Horner, is astounding, employing Spanish instruments and rhythms while keeping a mordern feel to its gather as well. The music adds a lot of heart to the movie, bringing out the intensity, the romance, the passion, and the victories with stylish and rousing compositions that fit accurate into the entire report.

The choreography and stunts for this film are what really build it work for the audience, beautiful us with some of the most effective swordplay ever acted out on film. Most of the battle scenes involve men with swords, fighting against one another with an satisfactory gain of battle. Actors Antonio Banderas, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Stuart Wilson and Matt Letscher all hit the swordplay as if they are prose, adding believability as well as excitement to these scenes.

The actors mentioned above bring so worthy to the movie. Banderas is handsome in his role as Alejandro, the unusual Zorro, a role he seems destined to have played. His looks, his charm, and his wit and personality all execute this Zorro one of the finest ever. Hopkins brings his usual presence to the movie, establishing his character as one of gigantic wit and intelligence, while also possessing a stout knowledge of the art of fighting. Catherine Zeta-Jones sparkles in her role as Elena, de la Vega’s daughter, and the chemistry between she and Banderas is aesthetic and intense. Stuart Wilson and Matt Matt Letscher play our enemies, and they do so with performances to match those of the heroes.

“The Cloak of Zorro” is one huge part of fun that works on many different levels. Some will come by pleasure in watching the actors work with the material, some will score intrigue in watching the romance unfold, while the action and adventure will most likely be the most influential factor that wins over the audience. It never stops absorbing, and keeps dishing out the thrills, the laughs, and the cheers.

This review refers to the Columbia TriStar DVD Dec 2000 release of “The Veil of Zorro”……

You’re a huge fan of this Zorro film but don’t want to shell out stout bucks? This DVD is for you. Columbia/TriStar’s transfer to DVD is one of the best I’ve seen. There isn’t one detail about it that’s cross. The record is presented in handsome anamorphic widescreen(2.35:1), and shows off the fabulous cinematography of the Mexico/California regions. The colors are outstanding. They jump out at you and select your breath away. The sound including the astonishing net, the dialouge and all the swashbuckling action is outstanding in the Dolby Dgigtal 5.1(THX) surround. You can also place it up for 2.0 stereo if you resolve. You won’t catch a ton a special features, but there is “making of” featurette, with some commentary by cast and crew, that is arresting and informative. For those who would lift more on the side of extras and don’t mind paying more, there is a “special edition” release that has lots of goodies including a video, and lots of commentary(examine buying info) . There is also a “super-bit” version, also more expensive if you determine.(Don’t gawk for extras there) .

The movie is packed with action, adventure, romance, and comedy and drama. It will appeal to you if you worship westerns, history, or swashbucklers. The sage opens with Zorro(Anthony Hopkins) bounding in to succor effect the Mexican people from the ruthless Don Rafeal Montero(Stuart Wilson) . They have been under Spanish rule and are now about to be free. Montero and Don Diego de la Vega/Zorro have been sworn enemies for years. Montero follows De La Vega befriend to his home, finds that he is Zorro, a swordfight ensues, Diego’s wife is murdered, his baby girl stolen and he is imprisoned.Montero flees help to Spain and raises the child as his fill.

Twenty years later……..Diego learning of Montero’s return, see’s a chance to reclaim his daughter, Elena(the comely Catherine Zeta-Jones) and breaks out of prison. He now trains a younger and stronger man, Alejandro Murietta(Antonio Banderas), to occupy his station and to serve do the people once again from the ruthless Montero.Lots of adventure abounds as they plot out to execute these feats, and of course lots of romantic adventure as well between Alejandro and Elena. You never knew sword fighting was so remarkable fun and so sexy until you study these two in a duel!

Hopkins is exquiste as the older Zorro, Banderas charming, comical, and heavenly as ever, and Zeta-Jones in one of her earliest roles really shines through. Other notables to recognize for are L.Q. Jones as “Three-Fingered Jack”, and Pedro Armendariz Jr as Don Pedro. Cinematography by Phil Meheux(The Saint/Goldeneye) is outstanding, Musical gather by James Horner brillant as always in giving the perfect feeling to the tale, and extraordinary direction by Martin Campbell(Vertical Limit/Goldeneye) .

I have had this movie since it was released and unprejudiced recently upgraded to a DVD version. It has a fantastic residence and tall characters. This was before (sorta) Brendan Fraser got that unpleasant type cast as George of the Jungle and the like, and proves that he is a talented actor as well. Moira Kelly is also extraordinary as the sexy coed obsessed with sex (I recommend The Cutting Edge for Moira fans) . Definetly an A+ script with A+ actors. Amusing, witty, sentimental and a feel apt movie.

With Honors certainly has its problems. It’s predictable and more than occasionally cheesy. But the cast construct it well worth watching. They do their best with the lines they’re given, and all of them actually act–facial expressions and physical cues and changes in tone of announce instead of unprejudiced reciting the lines. Brendan Fraser’s character visibly relaxes as the record progresses, and Joe Pesci’s performance is simply titanic.

More to the point (for me, anyway), this is the only “college movie” I can select seeing where the student protagonists are actually concerned both about academics and about attempting to grow as people, rather than being on a perpetual quest for spring break/girls/boys/beer/all of the above. Even better, the writer attempts to be serious about student worries instead of taking the easier route of mocking the nerds. When the script comes down off its soapbox, it’s a ravishing ensemble point to about the high cost of trying not to need other people. Beneath his defiant exterior, Simon (Joe Pesci) is unnerved by the family he abandoned; Monty (Brendan Fraser) hides tedious academic achievement because his grades can’t trip out on him like his father did; Courtney (Moira Kelly) settles for an empty physical relationship with a good-looking jerk because her emotions are tied up in her efforts to approach out to Monty. Ultimately, I liked With Honors less because of the warm fuzzy legal point it was trying to get than because I liked the characters. Most unusually for any movie, I could represent to most of the characters. Cheers to the writer and especially the actors for making their characters exact.

This is the third DVD release of Kubrick’s masterpiece, and it is unruffled not given an anamorphic transfer. How can this happen in 2007, considering Warner’s reputation as a studio that cares and the classic situation of the film? Improbable. And not a ticket of any fresh extras or bonuses except the trailer we’ve seen before. A big boo to Warner! Words fail.

As considerable as I savor a modern release of this classic film, I am at a loss to understand why they would give it a widescreen treatment and not enhance it for widescreen televisions. All of the two-disc special editions in the recent Kubrick boxed region are enhanced, and yet this one (not portion of the dwelling, but released at the same time) is not. If you’re a Lolita fan you should stick with the unique 1:33 version. This one will only frustrate you.

If you are like most Americans, you have probably never seen the current, unadulterated “Godzilla” (Unusual title “Gojira.” the name being a mix of the Japanese words for “gorilla” and “whale.”) More familiar with the campy, badly dubbed and edited version that graced TV screens in the 70s, we have seen Raymond Burr awkwardly inserted into the residence, anti-American political sentiments removed, and a horde of mismatched dialogs and ridiculous translations. Well, we are in for a actual treat!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gojira / Godzilla Deluxe Collector’s Edition (Gojira/Godzilla [1954] / Godzilla, King of the Monsters! Click Here

The Japanese “Godzilla” is a serious film, starring Kurosawa faded Takashi Shimura (”Seven Samurai,” “Ikura”) . (In fact, two of Shimura’s films, “Godzilla” and “Seven Samurai” competed for the 1954 Japanese Academy Award for Best Narrate.) Only nine years after the atomic bombs devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the threat of nuclear power was very great in the minds of the average Japanese citizen. Contamination, mutation, radiation…this was far from science fiction. This is the fire from which sprang the King of Monsters.

In a now-familiar region, American nuclear testing has given rise to a 150-foot astronomical engine of destruction, breathing atomic fire and hell-bent on destroying Tokyo before taking on the world. Assembling the army, and all of the recent science Japan can muster, they battle the rampaging monster to the inevitable conclusion.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Gojira / Godzilla Deluxe Collector’s Edition (Gojira/Godzilla [1954] / Godzilla, King of the Monsters! Click Here

Standing along side the unique 1933 “King Kong,” “Godzilla” is a classic monster movie, as well as a attractive film in its beget legal. A suspenseful horror-drama, the acting, filming and special effects are all far above other entries in the genre. The dim and white filming is worn superbly, with the fire-cast shadows making the monster all the more menacing.

What is gargantuan about this situation, is that not only do you fetch a restored and glorious version of the unusual classic, you accumulate an additional disk with the American edit complete with the stuffy professor Raymond Burr and the additional footage concept significant for American audiences. It is a rare chance to compare the two versions, and behold how politics in the US affected what audiences were allowed to thought in the 1950s.

I have been waiting a long time for the new “Godzilla” to bag a DVD release, and it is sizable to gawk it finally being treated with the respect it deserves.

Bottom line: If any of you grew up watching or watched recently: “Godzilla, King of the Monsters”, the chopped up “U.S.” version, choose it out of your mind and forget about it. You are in for a cinematic masterpiece when this DVD releases. I had the honor of watching the fresh “Gojira” at a theater in my town. This is the film that started it all. When it was relased in the U.S., it was butchered, altered and changed into an average science fiction film with Raymond Burr fill-ins. He wasn’t even in the unusual film. The recent “Gojira” is a sci-fi/horror masterpiece. The film creates feelings of fright and sorrow. The “fresh” version is a considerable darker, unpleasant film. AWESOME! The film also focuses more on the suffering of the Japanese people during the atomic age. The film makes you feel their tension and suffering. There is one scene where Gojira is staring at a substantial ben style clock. He is staring at it for no apparent reason. The scene makes you wonder what Gojira is thinking at the time. Then, for no reason, he tries to engage a bite out of it. That scene alone changes the feeling of the film to something more than a lumbering beast destroying everything. MUST Contemplate! MUST Occupy!

As has been said by previous reviewers, Tale of Crystania is not a sequel to Characterize of Lodoss Wars, although it appears to bill itself as such. While the names of Lord Ashrom and the dismal elf Pirotess are employed, and the hero bears a striking resemblance to Parn of RLW, that is where the similarities waste.

The animation is average at best. The stutter acting is somewhere between indifferent and abominable, and the character depictions flat dreadful. The shaded elf acts nothing like any shaded elf I’ve ever seen or read about. Another character is apparently meant to be a berserker, but is only a pale shadow of what he could or should be.

All these problems notwithstanding, the record somehow holds together and manages to hold the viewer’s interest. By the raze, you may actually collect yourself hoping that Ashrom and Pirotess at last have a chance for mutual happiness. Used as it is, Fable of Crystania does work.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Legend of Crystania: The Motion Picture! Click Here

If you advance this DVD hoping it will be a continuation of the Lodoss War saga, you will be disappointed. However, if you can position that preconception aside and come by Epic of Crystania as a sword and sorcery yarn entirely its have, you may score it a surprisingly satisfying sage.

Recommended, but unprejudiced barely.

Trying to compare this to Represent of Lodoss War is neearly impossible. Lodoss War had an entire 13 share series to flesh out its universe. So you shouldn’t try to compare them. It is also not any sort of sequel to Lodoss War, rather a kind of offshoot. The biggest mistake they did with this movie was advertising it as a Lodoss War followup, because the biggest pickle people have with it is it isn’t a followup at all.

The movie itself is very obliging. A lot of people were turned off by the animation, but I understanding it advantageous the storyline well (a bit darker of a sight then Lodoss) . There are a lot of gargantuan action sequences and enough of a storyline to bear things together. If you’re looking for another Lodoss War then I suggest you might want to inspect for the upcoming tv series, this is a different fable and a different feel. Redon is a kid who will obtain emotional at times and is more naive then even Parn was. His goals at the launch are FAR from pure and he is not superior at all, atleast at the originate. And it is fairly brutal, although not anywhere come the true brutal anime movies like Fist of the North Star. And last but not least, Ashrom and Piroteuse are portrayed differently then in Lodoss (and I must stamp here that this is 300 years after the events in Lodoss and I would have to contemplate the characters would change a bit, especially due to how worthy they care for each other) . Purist fanatics need not apply to this movie. I would rate this 4 and half stars if it was avaiable, but since it isn’t I’ll notice it up to 5.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Legend of Crystania: The Motion Picture! Click Here

The bottom line is if you’re the type of person who hates anything different from the established and are a purist Lodoss War fan, you’ll probably hate this. I’ve actually checked the gather and the reviews vary from “perfect 5 star movie”, usually just reviewers, to “avoid this like the plague”, usually die hard Lodoss fans. If you want a agreeable fantasy movie though this is a qualified one to lift up. I said it once and I’ll say it again you don’t need every sage to be the same thing over and over again and I like the diagram Crystania seperates itself from Lodoss.

I had heard a lot of poor things and unpleasant reviews about this movie. I was suprised when I watched it that it was as wonderful as it was. I understanding Timothy Olyphant did a satisfactory job and that the girl who played his adore interest was also obliging and HOT. The guy that plays T-Bag on the TV indicate Prison Demolish was also honorable. I have never played this game but I belief the account was handsome solid. It kind of reminded me of The Bourne Identity as he is a trained well-kept assassin from a situation that churns them out and he has flash backs of qualified and terrible things.

Anyway, the action rocked and it was gripping and spirited beginning to raze. It was glorious marvelous and fun to gaze.

Yet another game to movie adaptation, but this one has a major dissimilarity. It’s actually shapely damn icy.

Timothy Olyphant fits perfectly into the role of Agent 47, an orphan who is taken in and trained by an agency that trains children to be the most stealthy and deadly hitmen in the world. Agent 47 is the best of the best of all the Hitmen raised and trained by “The Organization.” He is called in to earn on a hit on the Russian President Mikhail Belicoff, however the hit is a setup and 47 finds himself on the speed from Interpol & The Russian Secret Police.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Hitman! Click Here

While on the accelerate, 47 endeavours to come by revenge and win the truth about who site him up and why. This unravels a tangled web of lies and deceipt as one by one he kills those who have done him base, including those who are also members of “The Organisation.”

During his drag he comes across an unlikely companion in Nika Boronina who we arrive to stare gives 47 emotions and feelings that he’s never encountered before.

This is a really superior movie and something that at times keeps so stop to the game that you near to consider this is a game in itself. Timothy Olyphant plays 47 incredibly and although 47 is conventionally an emotionless character but within the movie we are given emotion that is being held serve. That may be a bit of an oxymoron but the procedure in which Olyphant portrays it is incredible as it’s a character that has all this emotion built up inside but is trying to absorb it assist.

The action, dialogue and cinematography of this film I found to be incredibly quick-witted. It has moments in it that you can identify to the game and there’s one point in particular which the game itself is given a nod. 47 breaks through the window of a hotel room and it cuts to a vision of kids playing the video game hitman.

Overall this was a very, very trustworthy film which I have to admit I didn’t really have high hopes for in the beginning. I am gratified to say my preconceptions were changed within the first 5 minutes into the movie and I am distinct to study it again.

You should check it out whether you’re a fan of the game or not, it’s mild a resplendent special fraction.

Total Time: 225 min on DVD ~ VCI Entertainment 8533 ~ (7/29/2008)

I objective got done reviewing the ‘maybe it’ll be released’ DVD of Marvel Superheroes ‘66 Collection. Disney has the rights to that collection and it seems that it’s release has been delayed. We’ll hope and pray it sees the light of day.

It made me contemplate immediately of this cartoon, though, because I venerable to explore Area Angel and Marvel Superheroes (and Gumby as well I believe) on early Sunday mornings in the Albany, NY spot (can’t remember which television position) encourage in the mists of time. I was young and it was probably the early 70s, a few years after it’s unique release. I was too young when it first aired, being born in 1964.

Even as I was watching it as a kid I realised that it was cheap animation. I was already watching Walt Disney and Fleischer Popeyes, so I could deliver this wasn’t as obedient, but I loved it anyway. Partially due to the fact that there were hardly any cartoons on Sunday mornings! But also because the Residence theme was chilly.

Thanks to VCI (no, I don’t work for them) for being the company to finally release this. I would have preferred a tubby season station (not positive if there was more than one season), but this will do the trick in the absence of any other release.

I know that this will sell if VCI can unprejudiced accumulate the word out to adults of my generation, so best of luck to them.

I explore many people have beat me to reviewing the movie, so I’ll review the DVD(s) . First of all, if you haven’t played the DVDs, you don’t know what you’re missing! Compare the greatest DVD you’ve seen before with either of these two and you’ll perceive unprejudiced how many features we have here! The Collectors’ Series has features like the two theatrical trailers for MIB, visual (or audio) commentary, a behind-the-scenes featurette, a behind-the-scenes behold at the metamorphosis of MIB, the deconstruction of the tunnel scene, and studies of the 3 main CGI creatures: the Jeebs head transformation, the worm guys (carrying the cigarettes), the opening scene revelation of Mikey, extended and alternate scenes, a mess of storyboards, storyboard-to-film comparisons, behind-the-scenes photos, and conceptual art, and the music video. As you can recognize, this is one CRAMMED single-layer disc. But only hold the so-called “Minute Edition” if you’re a DVD fan that will go to ends of the earth to procure a ridiculous amount of features (some of which you won’t even want) on a DVD (or two) for it. Also, only come by it if you’re a reluctant DVD owner and you disapprove having to observe movies in anything but fullscreen. Because all the Little Edition has more is the fullscreen presentation, the Edgar Bug Fight scene deconstruction, a few extra conceptual art and the so-called “scene-editing workshop”. If you’re willing to pay so mighty extra for only those features, feel free, but you can score 3/4 of the features of the Exiguous Edition on the Collectors’ Series and assign a lot of money.

Wow! This miniature edition isn’t slight in features. Disc one has the wide and fat hide versions, visual commentry with Barry Sonnenfeld and Tommy Lee Jones and a technical audio commentry with Sonnenfeld, Rick Baker & the ILM team; this feature is outlandish to the dinky edition version. Throw in the standards like the sound setups: English 5.1, english 2-channel (Dolby Surround) and french (Dolby Surround) and subtitles that include english, french, spanish, cantonese and mandarin, and that wraps up disc one! Disc Two is loaded! I can’t list them all or I will exercise up all my residence, so I will list the major ones. There is a 3 scene editing workshop which allows you to become the filmmaker, so to say. You find to edit 3 chosen scenes that were filmed in a lot of different angles and then discover the final chop. Sonnenfeld will also descibe his have editing process. Next, there is a Edgar bug fight scene deconstruction using different angles. Then you have “opinion to creation” creatures feature and art and production photo gallery. There are extended & deleted scenes, storyboard comparisons, a documentary, a music video, DVD & web links, trailers, talent files and more! Whew! I said there was a lot, and as you can watch, I wasn’t exaggerating. Throw in a booklet and letter from Sonnenfeld and tiny poster which may be signed by the artists and you have a DVD with enough features to withhold you entertained and busy. Expeditiously, the transfer was shapely and, of course, the movie is expansive. This movie was one of my common Will Smith roles. Aside from the comedy woven into the script, the special effects were gargantuan! This is a must have for any fan of the movie or silly book! Delight In!

Being the chihuahua lover that I am, I was first in line at our local cinema to survey this flick!

I loved it from begining to waste, however it wanst exactly what I expected. From some of the previews it looked like there would be lots more chihuahuas in most of the film, but for the most section it is two chis (Chole and Papi) along with a German Shepard. Towards the waste is about 5-7 mintues of films with LOTS of chihuahuas, include a bit of history about the breed, some pleasing cold looking aztec ruins, and chis of every shape and color, including brindles, blue, chocolates, blacks, merles, spotted, fawn and even long coats!

Has expansive themes about finding your roots, not giving up on your lawful friends and helping others when they need it the most. Also, that no matter what your situtation is, there is a area where you belong.

I went with a friend from work (we are both adults) and we both loved it. We laughed and cried, and agreed we will leer it again and win it when it comes to video!

Also, kudos to Disney. At the ruin of this film there is a stamp about how each pets deserves a permenant loving home, and if you capture a dog, to do research on the breed!

Even with all the hype and not expecting a valid film, Beverly Hills Chihuahua is astonishing, exquisite and amusing. I call it a fresh day Lady and The Tramp. After reading one review on Amazon about how dismal, implausible, etc..I wondered what the viewer really wanted and that maybe he/she had been damaged earlier in life by sweet, dog loving, dusky but superior ending movies.

It’s a dog lovers movie and a very edifying kids movie with plenty of “life lessons”…..unprejudiced like all Disney dog movies. Hooray for Disney. How else would microscopic children learn about dogs and adore and life and loyalty. Animation (dogs talking) done very, very well. I’m 59 years dilapidated and I’ve not seen a sweeter movie in years.

Zorro, a half-hour Walt Disney Productions TV series based on the celebrated Zorro character, premiered October 10, 1957 on ABC. The final network broadcast was June 2, 1959. Seventy-eight episodes were produced, and 4 hour-long specials were aired on the Walt Disney anthology series between October 30, 1960 and April 2, 1961. Don Diego de la Vega (portrayed by Guy Williams) is depicted as a old University student, newly recalled by his father from Spain to his home outside El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles sobre El Rio Porciuncula (later shortened as Los Angeles) . Impartial before reaching California, Diego learns of the tyranny of Captain Monastario, and realizes that his father, Don Alejandro, summoned him to attend fight this injustice. Although he won medals for his fencing befriend in Spain, Diego decides that his best course of action is to mask his ability with a sword, and to affect the demeanor of a milquetoast radiant rather than a decisive man of action. His alter ego, Zorro, operates primarily at night, taking the recount action that Diego cannot. This deception does not always sit well with Diego, especially as it affects his relationship with his disappointed father. In reality, Diego relies heavily on his wits, both with and without the camouflage on. Later in the series, Diego emerges as a respected figure in his gain fair, a clever thinker and precise friend who objective happens to be hopeless at swordplay. The character’s name in Johnston McCulley’s writing and previous adaptations was Diego Vega; the Disney version expands the name to Diego de la Vega, an innovation retained in some subsequent versions of the account. Diego’s singing sing is supplied by Bill Lee of the Mellomen. For most of its brief urge, Zorro’s episodes were section of continuing tale arcs, each about thirteen episodes long. The first of these chronicles the arrival of Zorro / Diego and his battle of wits with the greedy and cruel local Commandante, Captain Monastario. After Monastario’s final defeat, in the second storyline, Zorro must repeat and counter the machinations of the inappropriate Magistrado Galindo, who is piece of a location to rule California. The third legend arc concerns the leader of that conspiracy, the shaded figure of the Eagle, revealed as vain and timorous José Sebastian Varga. Season one concludes with Varga’s death.

Season two opens with Diego in Monterey, the colonial capital, where privately still money to bring a supply ship to California is consistently diverted to a gang of bandits. Diego stays to investigate, both as himself and as Zorro, and becomes fervent in Ana Maria Verdugo, the daughter of the man organizing the inconvenience. Once Zorro defeats the thieves, he enters into a rivalry with his former friend Ricardo del Amo, a practical joker who is also alive to in Ana Maria. Ana Maria in turn is in admire with Zorro. While in Monterey, Zorro and Sergeant Garcia also find eager in a thunder between the peons and a repressive Lieutenant Governor. Diego is on the verge of giving up his veil to marry Ana Maria, but Don Alejandro talks him out of it. Zorro (and Diego) says goodbye to Ana Maria and returns to Los Angeles, where he gets interested in a series of shorter adventures. In one three episode epic arc, guest starring Annette Funicello, Zorro must solve the mystery of Anita Campillo’s father, a man who does not seem to exist. Other storylines slow in the series involve Diego’s ne’er-do-well uncle (Cesar Romero), a place against the governor of California, an encounter with an American “mountain man” (Jeff York, reprising a role from The Saga of Andy Burnett), and outwitting a greedy emissary from Spain.

The Complete First Season is the definitive version that Disney Zorro fans have waited years for. Covering all 39 episodes that comprise season #1 (1957-1958), this dinky edition (and numbered) 6-disc state of 30,000 includes a Certificate of Authenticity, a collectible pin (showing two crossed silver swords with Zorro’s cloak superimposed on top), as well as a black-and-white photo postcard showing Guy Williams in character as Don Diego. A booklet outlining the contents of the situation can also be found here. The situation comes handsomely encased in a dim metal tin, fitting of this B&W series where the hero wears an all-black costume.

A 5:21 intro by Leonard Maltin introduces the episodes and gives a brief history of Zorro and these particular episodes along with the extras on these discs. The remastering is evident on these episodes. The characterize is definite and so is the sound; naturally, with the arrangement it was originally recording, a digital surround experience is not possible, but the Dolby Digital recording is crisp, sure, and the rep sounds better than it has in years. And no…there are no colorized versions here. Objective the sterling unlit and white originals. The comedy, action, drama, and music combination that one expects from a Walt Disney production is all here, completed with a stellar cast. Guy Williams, Gene Sheldon, and Henry Calvin have unbelievable chemistry. Williams’ hero Zorro, who is a “bookish” Don Diego by day, becomes the black-caped & masked anecdote who rights wrongs in his “off hours.”

Besides the 39 episodes (starting with “Presenting Señor Zorro”, unique air date of 10/10/1957 and finishing with #39 “The Eagle’s Flight”, fresh air date of 7/3/1958), there is a 6th disc of bonus material. Here you will salvage 2 hour long episodes:

1. “Zorro: El Bandido,” unusual air date of 10/30/1960, from Walt’s anthology TV series “Walt Disney Presents.” Clocking in at 51:10, this episode features Gilbert Roland & Rita Moreno, not long before her breakthrough role in “West Side Tale.”

2. “Zorro: Adios El Cuchillo,” new air date of 11/6/1960, from Walt’s anthology TV series “Walt Disney Presents.” This episode is 49:00 long and again stars Roland & Moreno.

An excerpt (3:17) is included here from “The Fourth Anniversary Indicate,” which originally aired on 9/11/1957. Walt is surrounded by the Mouseketeers who anxiously want to hear more about Zorro. Walt finally relents, and the opening from the demonstrate rolls out. There is an “interaction” between the two sets, where Zorro talks to the Mouseketeers and then engages in a sword fight shown only in shadow (very effective!) .

There is also a featurette entitled, “The Life and Epic of Zorro” (12:26) detailing the history of Zorro. Starting with the publication of Johnston McCulley’s legend in a pulp fiction magazine titled All-Story Magazine, “The Curse of Capistrano” came out in 1919. Swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks Sr. was the first to play Zorro in the movies (1920), followed by Tyrone Power over at 20th Century Fox in 1940. Disney purchased the rights to the property in 1952, but didn’t rep around to precise production until 1957. This marked the first time that a standing state was built on the Disney lot in Burbank at a cost of $500,000. Disney worked closely on this display to fabricate everything authentic, and made certain it was helmed by a quality team. Each episode cost $78,000 to film and was shot on a 5-day schedule, which was very lavish for the day. Each installment also had new music and scoring written by William Lava. Today, the quality serene shows and has paid off handsomely for the studio from its continued fanbase over the past 50 years. The documentary has many technicolor images of Guy Williams and the Zorro cast, along with interviews of Williams’ son. Lawful battles between ABC and Disney delayed Season 3, which resulted in a few hour-long episodes. It is ironic that one of the top rated shows (garnering an unheard of 40% audience piece in season 2) was killed not by the ratings but by legalities and quibbling.

This is a sure-fire station that will please mature and recent fans of this quality program.
