I’ve never written a review in my life, and at the waste of my comments some readers may say they can leer why; nonetheless this movie compelled me to piece my idea. A sparkling cinematic portrayal of Winston Churchill’s service as Britian’s Prime Minister during World War II. Brendan Gleesons performance as Churchill is friendly, capturing not only his physical attributes but his careful plan provoking declare of vocabulary as well. The casting of Roosevelt and Stalin is worthy, you would stutter you were a hover on the wall at Yalta. Janet McTeer as Clemmie (Mrs. Churchill) is the epitome of a gracious British wife, friend and confidante to the Prime Minister. Iain Glen’s role as King George VI is as royal as the monarch himself. Historically good and brilliantly written. From the Parlimentary debates to the steady war footage and Churchill’s relationships with his cabinet, war ministers, family and the King. A tremendous film, though-provoking and informative. KBO-HBO!

I unbiased finished watching “Into The Storm” and could not be more appalled by what I saw. Firstly, on merely technical matters the film is terribly edited as it continuously jumps between the events of the Second World War and the days before Churchill’s loss in the 1945 election for Prime Minister objective after the war ends, while giving very miniature historical context leisurely the events that it depicts. Secondly, it is poorly acted as Churchill is portrayed as a crotchety, weak, pig-headed, bullying, war-monger who enjoyed war and did not want it to raze, cared small for the men under his charge, did not effect the advice of his military advisors and fellow MPS, and treated his servants and his family particularly his wife, with disdain. (Not to mention that the acting itself by all interested, feels inauthentic, and not believable, as if the actors are playing caricatures, rather then actual people.) Thirdly, the filmmakers even go so far as to imply that Churchill was as unpleasant as Hitler in his conduct of the war by filming a scene in the House of Commons where a Labour MP makes that assertion, and by showing Churchill reacting indifferently to the bombings of German towns, sanctioning the killing of German civilians, and presents the bombing of Dresden as being on the same scale as all of the horrors that the Nazis perpetrated on the world.( Mind you, I’m aware that the bombing of Dresden was a reprehensible act, but it does not even approach end to the horrors wrought on the world by Nazi Germany.) Fourthly, it implies that Josef Stalin,-one of the most vile men in history- had more sterling sense when it came to fighting the war then Churchill when they have discussions about the it during the Teheran and Yalta Conferences. Fifthly, it diminishes his speeches by showing him giving them in a petite context by either simply rehearsing them or cutting off memorable sections for example his line about “man’s finest hour.” Finally, and maybe most importantly, there is nothing admirable or reliable about Churchill as none of his purported warmth, humor, decency, fantastic eloquence or charisma are even touched on. In short, he is not seen as the gargantuan man that with the attend of others saved the world from one of the most despicable regimes ever loosed upon it that threatened its very existence.

Shame on the people who made this! I hope that any money they made from it is burned and I cannot fill it received Emmy Awards!

So, therefore I say DO NOT destroy your money by purchasing this historically improper, badly do together film that desecrates the legacy of one of the indisputably unbelievable figures of the Twentieth Century.

If you long to study moral representations of Churchill and World War II, see: “The Gathering Storm,” ” Then There Were Giants,” “The Winds of War,” and “War and Remembrance,” they do it justice.

I am at a loss to understand how after releasing such an amazing film as “The Gathering Storm” in 2002, HBO-A network which often releases estimable movies and specials- could follow it up with this vile section of filth.

When I purchased this film, I wasn’t paying helpful attention, thinking that I was buying yet another version of Tolstoy’s famed work; however, it is, in fact, the 1968 Bondarchuk tale which I already owned in widescreen (letterbox) and which has now been packaged and edited by another distributor. Yet, in the slay, it’s quite a different film!

Buy,Download, Or Stream War and Peace! Click Here

First of all, this version has been “panned and scanned” to better facilitate a regular cloak television — so, this product is what we generally refer to as “full-screen”. Second, there are a few editing differences including some scenes that were not in the widescreen (letterbox) version and misssing a few scenes that were. This does not radically change the film but it was certainly captivating to peruse.

Finally, the voiceovers and subtitles are COMPLETELY different, being suitable to the current widescreen (letterbox) version. Many more conversation parts are picked up in this version and the translation is far noble. In some cases, the two translations are quite different, this one aligning more with the highly recommended Maude translation of the unique book.

Buy,Download, Or Stream War and Peace! Click Here

In the demolish, I’m satisfied to bear both versions, as each has its advantages and disadvantages. In record quality, this one cannot compare to the widescreen (letterbox) version as the clarity was somewhat compromised by the blow-up of the negatives during the “pan and scan” process. Mild, it’s quite watchable.

As far as the memoir goes, this is one of the finest war films ever produced. The Hollywood version of War and Peace starring Henry Fonda is a pathetic joke compared to this Russian masterpiece. You can reference my further descriptions of both the book and the widescreen (letterbox) film version on this spot for more details concerning the true record.

I have two final comments: 1. Read the book prior to watching either version of Bondarchuk’s legend and you’ll be distinguished more elated in your plan of the myth of Napoleon’s invasion of Austria and later of Moscow. 2. If you believe a regular TV then this is the version that you want. If you have a widescreen TV and already contain the widescreen (letterbox) version, I highly recommend that you grab this one too!

I had the opportunity to ogle this Kultur DVD edition of “War and Peace” enough to evaluate its presentation. Firstly, it’s not letterboxed, but full-frame. The opening title sequence only is letterboxed to some extent so as not to lop off all the titles, and this looks as though the current aspect ratio is not particularly wide to start with. So while not a colossal deal of recount is prick off from the sides, there is some missing. The print is a satisfactory one, and the beauty and power of the film arrive through, but it does not appear to have been restored to any large extent. This means that the color intensity, incompatibility, and brightness of the image fluctuates from scene to scene, and sometimes even within one scene (reel changes, perhaps? ) . The image throughout is a bit soft-focus, and it benefits greatly if you turn up the sharpness control on your monitor. There does not seem to be a gigantic deal of blemishes, dirt, or injure, though.

Buy,Download, Or Stream War and Peace! Click Here

The English subtitles are printed on the film itself, and therefore not removable. In the scenes where French is spoken, there is a jabber superimposed on the soundtrack translating what is being said into Russian, which is of no interest to the English-speaking viewers who will be watching this DVD. In these cases, you have an actor speaking French, an additional squawk speaking Russian, and an English subtitle simultaneously, which is distracting to say the least. It’s hard to imagine why a print with this feature was chosen, unless it was the absolute best-looking print available.

That brings up the subject of the alternate converse of this film due at the raze of December from the Russian Cinema Council (Ruscico) . Judging from past Ruscico DVD releases, it may well be a restored, archive-quality print (hopefully letterboxed) . Ruscico releases appear at a very wearisome rate, but when the do they are worth waiting for, which is what you may want to do.

The film tranquil makes a fair impact, even in this less than perfect presentation. If you grasp full-frame presentation, you may even purchase this one. It seems to me, however, that most cinemaphiles whose interests are arcane enough to extend to this film would want it presented in its current aspect ratio, in an edition as stop to the source material as possible. Those people may well remove to gawk what Ruscico offers.

Sailor Moon season 2 is a must engage. While i admit it does indicate its age…but you have to hold in mind that these episodes were made encourage in 1993 so some aging is to be expected.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sailor Moon – Season Two – Uncut! Click Here

In this sereis you catch to view all that DIC left out in their attempt to kiddie sailor moon which was originally created for a teenage audience. I was very surprised when i discovered that DIC actually did not leave out any episodes in this season like they did in the previous….so you earn the season as you saw it on Toonami, but uncut, and unkiddied. I was only disapointed to regain that none of the seasons are bi-lingual so you cant make-fun of DIC anymore for its butchering of sailor moon. Luckily i dont mind subtitles and i Treasure the japanese voices which are very cute, especially Ami-chan’s.

As in the season one place you will score no special features, but as there are 42 episodes to examine, you will be more than blissful with that.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sailor Moon – Season Two – Uncut! Click Here

And for those who wish to know, runnig time is 450 minutes in Japanese 2.0 with english subtitles (as i mention above this is NOT bi-lingual) and the suggested rating is 15+ for some violence and nudity i hold and some language.

This is a season all fans will be obvious to indulge in….dont miss out….they are only goind to fabricate so many copies so race and come by yours today before you miss out and are stuck with the DIC dubbed versions on VHS.

This is honest a stamp to all Anime DVD collectors (as well as Sailor Moon fans) . DO NOT Rob ANYTHING THAT SAYS PERFECT COLLECTION UNLESS IT HAS AN OFFICIAL LOGO ON IT (E.G. ADV, MVM, MANGA, ETC) . DO YOR RESEARCH. ONLY Recall FROM REPUTABLE DEALERS. A CLUE IS THAT FAKES WILL BE Set 0.

I bought the 4 disc Sailor Moon season 1 DVD and the quality is bearable and watchable, but the CD is a runt more PRONE TO SCRATCHES (more like a audio CD) than a suitable official DVD. The jam isn’t all that unpleasant tho. But the DVD smells of bootleg.

Please Amazon, net your act together. Close supporting these pirates as the fans want the true thing.

The V.I.P. lounge of the London Airport is cunningly designed to exploit the real-life Burton–Taylor romance… In itself, the film is competent rather than stimulating…

Buy,Download, Or Stream The VIPs! Click Here

Liz (very heavenly to stare at) once again is the neglected wife, comforting herself with a lover… When he’s threatened by his wife’s departure, the husband, who has given diamonds instead of affection, shows he cares… Liz is unyielding, however; she wants him to suffer… Only when Burton decides to waste himself and she finds out does she realize he needs her… The couple are reunited: despite their ample wealth, despite his previous indifference, despite her temptations (Louis Jourdan is waiting in the wings), they are suited, veteran people after all…

The inevitable reconciliation is reached by means of fantastic coincidences… But the details hardly matter… The Burtons behave like stars, he shamelessly working his speeches as though they were Shakespearean arias, she being very dignified and remote, on her best lady-like behavior after “Cleopatra.” At the destroy, she has a tearful scene that gives her the kind of torrential emoting she had practiced since “National Velvet” and “The Courage of Lassie;” for the rest, she’s frosty and detached, her face undisturbed by normal human expression… Playing an instigator of male insecurity, she’s not, for a change, altogether sympathetic here…

Buy,Download, Or Stream The VIPs! Click Here

The Burtons by no means dominate the movie, and again, as in “Cleopatra,” the chemistry isn’t quite there… He has that deep sonorous screech he’s so immensely proud of; she’s working with her high, little-girl breathiness… He’s stage-trained, an emphatic classical actor… She’s movie-trained, skillful at not giving the camera more than it can beget… His bombastic language and her movie-fashioned subtlety do not mix; often they don’t seem to be occupying the same movie station…

Burton was one of the finest classical actors of his generation, but as a movie actor in movie star material, he was no match for his wife… When they have pleasant scripts, with equally weighted parts, as in “Who’s Worried of Virginia Woolf?,” and “The Taming of the Shrew,” they are truly responsive to each other…

In “The V.I.P.s” Burton gives too grand and Taylor unbiased barely gives enough, but it doesn’t matter… It’s Weak Hollywood pretentious and a big-cast movie like this is only as qualified as its supporting actors… Maggie Smith, as the unsophisticated secretary with a crush on her boss, and Margaret Rutherford, as the eccentric duchess, stole the present and won a Best Supporting Oscar…

The VIPs is a criminally ignored masterpiece of area decoration, though the acting leaves a lot to be desired. Orson Welles makes fun of his believe reputation as a outrageous and egotistical director, but it’s largely painful to glimpse thinking of how many immense movies he never got to invent because people believed the role was for exact. Because he is only in the movie to provide the ultimate space twist for a more spicy subplot lively duchess Margaret Rutherford, the role might as well have been played by Stringer Davis–or left out of the film altogether. I hiss his appearance casts a wintry glance for the 1950s-1960s mania for international film-making, during which time many, many movies were status overseas for tax reasons, but then again that what he was all about, wasn’t it, the nomad, the cosmopolitan Mr Arkadin, man without a country. I wonder what country The VIPs was actually filmed in, the fogged in airport looks glamorous and evocative, reminding today’s viewers there must have been an era in which a plane dart was something worth getting dressed up for.

Elizabeth Taylor takes advantage of this by wearing a giant turban hat, like a beehive, and an grand, striking coat. She’s runt and certain as she moves this exaggerated outfit down streaming acres of Pan Am industrial carpeting. I saw this as a boy and always wanted to go to Heathrow. Imagine my surprise when I did go there, and unpleasant connections forced me to consume the night at the airport, looking for the kind of glamour Taylor and Louis Jourdan seem to acquire up everywhere they go. Even Rod Taylor and Maggie Smith, desperately strapped for cash, and Margaret Rutherford, awful as a churchmouse, come by themselves in enormous cathedral-like spaces of cultural amenity, cocktails proffered sympathetically, someone to fuss at their every need and the décor a Vincente Minnelli dream of throw pillows in three contrasting 60s colors. (I did wind up having a manicure at midnight from a Polish emigree.) I have to confess that every time the scenario dwelt on the Taylor-Burton-Jourdan treasure triangle I dozed off a itsy-bitsy, till we hit on the conception of placing wagers on how many minutes into the movie would it recall for Taylor to change expression. For the report it doesn’t happen until 1.27.13, but support your eyes peeled, it’s a doozy.

This was a amusing movie by all means, but the unique is the best, the second fell off alot, and this one was trying too hard to be like the first Block Party. If you saw the first one it brought attend Action Jackson which was the reason the first was sooooo laughable but like I said this movie tried too hard to be like the first and over exaggerated in some things. Overall BP3 made me laugh definitly diagram more than the second, but if this is the first Block Party you scrutinize it will be a five star for someone else.

There are really no special features besides the informative bios, but having Father Ted at the push of a button on DVD is special enough for me. God Bless Father Ted! Peep out for Season 2 available in March 2002!

Father Ted is one of the funniest series ever seen on British TV. What an new and hillarious idea! The characters and casting are perfect. Episode 1 sets the scene perfectly – you will laugh your head off in every single of the 6 episodes on this DVD.

And now for the negative side – The DVD contains nothing more than the 6 episodes that develop up series 1. There is no commentary, no “slack the scenes”, no interviews… As if that wasn’t enough, there are no subtitles! I live in Greece, and most of my friends have diminutive knowledge of English and usually have to rely on subtitles to understand everything; as a result, I have a hard time sharing this suitable comedy with them. In addition, the menus are shameful and I can only wonder why they did such a abominable job on the authoring aspect of this DVD.

Despite the dreadful authoring, anybody who loves Father Ted (i.e. everyone who has seen it) will definitely want a copy for their DVD collection. A must-have!

Over the years, it seems that the Robin Hood saga has been a celebrated of sorts for film makers to re-invent, manipulate, and showcase again and again. No doubt due to global appeal and the premise of a hero taking from the rich, giving to the dreadful, and fighting the trustworthy fight.

Of all the Robin Hood films ever produced, it’s readily apparent that Prince of Thieves relies less on marvelous historical accuracy and leans more toward Hollywood flair which smooth makes for an piquant film. Despite using no English accent (which appears to grate on some reviewers for some reason), Kevin Costner presents himself well in the role of Robin Hood. Coupled with glowing performances from Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman, Christian Slater, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, (to name impartial a few), the sage moves at an consuming rush and hits the price as a stand up adventure movie that doesn’t disappoint.

As for the fresh 2 disc special edition release of this movie, it fair got a whole lot better. Not having to flip the disc over any more to witness the entire feature like in the first release, you now have a recent digital transfer and a remastered DTS 5.1 soundtrack and both are outstanding. On disc 2 you have grand bonus material enhancing the value and enjoyment even further. Included is a decent documentary on the making of Prince of Thieves, Bryan Adams performing his music video of ‘(Everything I do) I do it for you’, an interactive mediaeval weapons gallery, cast and crew bios, production notes, interviews with cast and crew, and trailers and t.v. spots.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves! Click Here

You don’t really have to be a die-hard Robin Hood fan to appreciate this movie. The film has a few flaws and stretches the historical aspect somewhat but it plays out well with plenty of action, adventure, humor, and fun. This special edition release would be a righteous addition to any DVD collection and I recommend it to everyone.

I was at [local store] one day and saw the extended Robin Hood DVD on sale. I decided to assume it. I idea that I liked all the swordplay, action, fantasy tales. I have to enlighten you. It was a immense recall! It was only [$$] for such a large extended movie.

Plot – Our distinguished Robin Hood is in a Jerusalem prison. He escapes with a moor, Azeem (Morgan Freeman), and his friend, Peter. Peter doesn’t perform it, but wants Robin to promise that he will protect his sister, Marion. Robin agrees and finds his map home with Azeem. They look Robin’s father boring and their servant blinded. The Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman, who is perfect in the role) killed Robin’s father and is doing sinful deeds to the abominable people in the region. Robin and Azeem ruin up in Sherwood Forest and meet its occupants, including John Tiny and Will Scarlett. They all team up and determine to fight succor against the Sheriff. (94/100)

Acting – A lot of people despise how Kevin Costner speaks in this movie. I really didn’t observe a change in his grunt at all. So it didn’t really bother me! I view Kevin did well as Robin. Christian Slater and Alan Rickman were the two who stole the movie. Christian was large as the mysterious and confusing Will Scarlett. Alan Rickman was hilarious and heinous as the Sheriff. They both were titanic and should have deserved broad credit for their positions. Also, there is a short cameo by Sean Connery. (96/100)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves! Click Here

Action and Violence – There is a lot of action and violence in this movie. It could have been rated R. There is a lot of swordplay, arrows being fired into faces, fist fights, and blood. I judge any action man would like this movie. Principal Action Scenes : Overrun By Celts, Fiery Assault, Cheating The Hangman, Storming The Castle, and Final Duel. To check out these scenes, purchase the DVD and access them through Scene Selection. (95/100)

Sexual Themes – There are some sexual themes in this record. There is a scene where Marion is about to be raped from the Sheriff. Also, Robin swims around nude under a waterfall. So there is some sexual order. I don’t really contemplate it was needed though. (89/100)

The Two Discs and The Extended Version – The extended version is very gracious. It explains a lot more about the Sheriff. There is also some action attach into some places. It is worth the money.

The extended version comes with two discs. Thankfully, you didn’t have to “turn the disc over” to study the “whole” movie. So I was tickled that I could unprejudiced witness the whole feature film on one disc. The other discs are loaded with extras. There is commentaries, documentaries, making of features, galleries, trailers, and more.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves! Click Here

Extended Version (98/100) The Two Discs (94/100)

Overall, this movie is very well done. It is very first-rate and worth the money to pick. Don’t find the current disc. It isn’t worth it! Honest remove this. It has tons of action, romance, some comedy, glowing sets and landscapes, and honest an all around immense feel to it.

Overall – 94 A

The extended version is supposedly UNRATED.

UNRATED for strong violence, action, sexual themes, and brief strong language.

I’m going to launch the review off with the obvious: this is not a movie, but rather a documentary on the Kings Of Comedy Tour. In other words, a stand-up comedy film. You’re probably reading this and wondering “why would anybody sell a collection of comedy skits as a full-length feature film? ” Discover the movie and you’ll understand. While no doubt expedient for television viewing (partly because they’re all on BET), the experience in the theatre gives an overall impression of being there, actually watching Steve Harvey, DL Hughley, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac toss their routines live. As for the performers themselves, some of them are downright hilarious – I particularly like Steve Harvey and, of course Bernie Mac – while DL Hughley is kinda so-so, spending most of the time talking about panties and dissing audience members. But even the weaker performances survive because the performers are energetic and bristling with enthusiasm. This ends up making the material seem a lot funnier than it really is. I guarantee you’ll secure yourself laughing till you’re crying over jokes that really aren’t all that laughable (like me as well as everyone else that was in the theatre) . DL Hughley is no doubt decent overall, and Cedric the Entertainer has his bright moments, although as a whole they aren’t really anything special. Emcee Steve Harvey and Bernie Mac, on the other hand, are awesome. Steve Harvey’s material is actually comical to commence with (I Esteem the Colossal bit at the beginning), but a lot of it is spirited as well. He manages to get humour in care for, spirituality and family life without sounding blasphemous or disrespectful. Most importantly, he means every single word he says, and that connects with the audience all too well when talking about romance and fancy. As for Bernie Mac: THIS is the skit that makes the movie so grand. Without a doubt the star of the demonstrate, Bernie talks rudely about his kids and his recent parenting techniques, and pokes fun at other parents. His subject matter can be a runt unsafe, but he never comes through as disrespectful or snarky. Whereas Steve Harvey delivers his skits with pure honesty, Mac’s charm comes from the fact that its clear that not a single word of it is upright. This allows him to notice territory that others may be horrified to. As a whole, this movie is highly recommended if you savor to laugh. It is an entirely worthwhile device to extinguish two hours, and I can guarantee you’ll leave the theatre (or television) with a gargantuan smile on your face.

This film captures stand-up performances from comedians Steve Harvey, D.L. Hughley, Cedric The Entertainer and Bernie Mac, and is a non-stop laugh-fest in the highest sense of the term. This review is not going to be a very long one – to be rather objective. The humor, of course, revolves around many taboo subjects like racial stereotypes, sex, religion and other things – if you are easily offended by any of these things, I suggest you avoid this film like the plague, because it is no holds barred! A few of the many hilarious scenes that I believe personal favorites from each comedian:

(1) . Steve Harvey does a beautiful safe job of mocking the characters in the Huge film who decide to withhold playing their violins amidst a major catastrophe. He later goes into detail about why he prefers “old-school” music; particularly old-school R&B, over the hip-hop and rap trends that seem to be preferred by the original generation. He does an effective job of lambasting rappers, and is absolutely laugh-out-loud hilarious. I was practically in tears from laughing so hard at this. Needs to be seen to be believed.

(2) . D.L. Hughley was hilarious too, but like some have pointed out, some of his routines came from other, earlier stand-up specials. Side note: If you can regain a copy of his stand-up comedic special entitled “Going Home,” bewitch it up. That performance I possess to be his funniest, and it leaves me rolling on the floor everytime.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Original Kings of Comedy! Click Here

(3) . Cedric The Entertainer’s humor was the least brash of all the four, and has more of a laid-back, subtle charm, which collected manages to produce you laugh. The whole break-dance scene was comic, as well as his “cruising into outer status” scene, his self-made “martial art style” scene, and others.

(4) . Bernie Mac – suited lord. He was without a doubt the craziest, most brash, most (messed) -up comedian in this station. Sadistic and intensely cathartic, even. It’s only fitting that he would be the last performer. His routine was unprejudiced a minute too great for me – and level-headed is – and I mean that in the best draw possible. His takes on kids and how they rep (or should accept) punished, sex and orgasm, and the “stuttering” kid were honest too considerable – not only was I laughing too hard, but my lungs began to pain, I nearly lost my sigh for a brief period, and I was nearly out of oxygen. The guy was too remarkable! Saying that he cracked me up would be a Substantial understatement.

All in all, recommended for many who want (or need) a major laugh-fest. Sometimes, one of the best ways – if not the best intention – to deal with terrible situations in life is to be able to laugh at them – as exemplified in this film. If you suffer from chronic asthma, heart disease, and/or are easily apprehensive – particularly by the things mentioned in the above paragraphs (including loads of profanity) – halt VERY far away from this – you will be digging yourself an early grave.

It amazes me how incredibly well this 1969 western has held up after all these years. At once classically structured and satirically executed, director George Roy Hill and screenwriter William Goldman have pulled together a supremely captivating period report that caters to contemporary sensibilities to this day. It is to their credit that the film remains suitable to the characters and never gets too great during its mercurial paced 110-minute running time. The yarn naturally revolves around the legendary outlaws who robbed banks at the turn of the last century. Their escapades are divided roughly into three sections in the film. The first is the introductory set-up where their opposite yet complementary personalities are established. Leading the motley Hole in the Wall Gang, they ultimately pull off a hiss robbery with an excess of dynamite. The second portion is an extended dart sequence where Butch and Sundance are chased relentlessly by a group of unknown bounty hunters.

The third and final portion details their dash to Bolivia where they are definite to go straight but secure caught up with local bandits and catch their rank past catching up with them. It seems inconceivable to have anyone other than Paul Newman and Robert Redford in the title roles. As the more established star at the time, Newman is characteristically laconic as Butch. His innate likeability is enhanced by his rascally manner and crack comedy timing. In the more archaic gunslinger role, Redford provides the ideal partner with his flinty manner and unavoidable charisma. In between them is Katharine Ross, current from “The Graduate”, who plays Etta with sensual élan, though she does not figure in the most important scenes. Of course, Burt Bacharach’s instantly recognizable musical get is here, and while there is an anachronistic feel to such 1960’s-sounding pop music over a western, it somehow works because the attitude of the film seems so current. Even the comically romantic bicycle sequence manages to keep its buoyancy thanks to the inane but undeniably catchy “Raindrops Support Fallin’ on My Head”.

Conrad Hall’s vibrant, burnished cinematography deserves special mention as it has been preserved well in the 2006 Ultimate Collector’s Edition DVD package. The rest of the two-disc package is robust though bordering on overkill, adding on to the features that were already included in the previous 2000 Special Edition DVD. Retained from that edition is the animated combination of perspectives provided by Hill, Hall, lyricist Hal David and associate producer Bob Crawford in their joint commentary track. Unusual is separate and equally insightful commentary from Goldman. Another holdover from the previous edition is the forty-minute vintage documentary, “The Making of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid”, a quiet terrific featurette from 1970 with participation from Newman, Goldman, Hill and Redford.

There are three novel documentaries – a 2005 retrospective peruse at the film called “All of What Follows is True: The Making of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”; a fact-check featurette called “The Wild Bunch: The Upright Memoir of Butch & Sundance”; and the somewhat repetitive “History Through the Lens: Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid: Outlaws Out of Time”, a cumulative pains which combines elements of all the other documentaries into one ninety-minute feature. Lots of astronomical insight is provided on the 1994 interviews with Newman, Redford, Ross, Goldman and Bacharach. A deleted scene is also included with Hill’s commentary (since the audio had been lost) – it is a disposable transitional scene where Butch and Sundance are watching newsreel footage of themselves in a Bolivian theater while Etta quietly leaves to the protest dwelling. Lastly, there are trailers for eight of Newman’s vintage films. This is definitely a robust package for one of the enormous films of the 1960’s.

This disc ranks accurate up there with one of the worst Blu-ray transfers I fill (along with the first Stargate release) . It is a shame, as this is a really huge and fun movie. It is one of the first westerns I grasp that really interspersed humor with drama in an effective draw. I conception it tried to be a bit too distinguished or to have something for everyone (the bicycle scene went on a microscopic long for my taste, for example) . Audio is dazzling but the failure to do a really outstanding video transfer (as was done with Patton recently) will disappoint the many fans of this movie who were eagerly awaiting this release.

I swear I never saw Steve Martin replacing Spencer Tracey or Kimberly Williams replacing Elizabeth Taylor. The modern film directed by Vincente Minnelli had charm and a number of extraordinary sequences in it but Charles Shyer’s film nicely updates the modern film with some gut busting laughs for the ironic age. Shyer’s films have a number of nice touches and references to other films including Martin commenting (as Banks) that he doesn’t want to be bankrupt by the wedding and have to shuffle the streets in a bathrobe (a reference to Carl Reiner’s film “The Jerk” starring Martin) : Bank’s character is named after George Banks (David Tomlinson) from the Disney classic “Mary Poppins”; the Bank’s character’s middle name of Stanley is borrowed from the father in the Spencer Tracey new and loads of other references to classic Hollywood films. This is the third turn for “Father of the Bride” (it was also a short lived TV series in 1960) and it’s quiet toothsome although this 15th Anniversary Edition is a year premature (the film came out in 1991) .

George Banks’ (Steve Martin) cramped girl Annie (Kimberly Williams) is getting married. All of the mayhem that you can imagine in a Steve Martin PG comedy ensues. Kimberly is marrying her college sweetheart Bryan (George Newbern) . Banks doesn’t have a plight with the belief of his daughter getting married but he does have an philosophize with his small growing up because, well, it means he’s getting broken-down, too. With toothsome amusing turns by Martin Short (as the wedding coordinator) and Diane Keaton, “Father of the Bride” unlike most remakes manages to update the material and compose it work for a new audience without betraying the emotional core that drove the comedy in the new film.

This version of “Bride” gets the deluxe treatment i the 15th Anniversary Edition. I don’t know honestly if all of these featurettes and the commentary track were on the 2003 edition. I’d suspect they were and this is unbiased a re-release in unique packaging. The previous edition released two years ago was a nice anamorphic transfer. The piquant image quality and worthy clarity evident here is a runt improvement over the new DVD release (although the previous version looked splendid darn fine, too) . It appears that the same transfer was traditional for this version and the film was tweaked a bit for the latest release. The 5.1 soundtrack

I seem to consume the extras here being the same as on the previous edition but that could unbiased be gross memory on my fragment. Either map, “Martin & Short Interview Each Other” is an funny 5 dinky, bizarre tongue-in-cheek featurette where they skewer each other, the roles they play and everything else in eye. At one point Short talks about how playing a woman liberated him in this film. He plays a man. We also accept an 11 slight standard “Making of” featurette on the film with some humorous behind-the-scenes takes on the film.

Director Charles Shyer’s commentary track is both informative and comic. Shyer discusses the challenges of directing a remake of a classic film. He notes that it’s a stunning line bringing a contemporary tone to the film but not playing with it or improving it into “a failure”. It’s particularly spellbinding to brand that Shyer and Meyers both have a high regard for the unique film. Hence, the things that worked well in the new (such as the opening monologue) are unprejudiced updated (and, according to Shyer it took 35 takes to shoot the opening because of a number of technical issues that kept occurring) . It’s a pity we don’t have Martin’s comments or, for that matter, other cast members since Shyer recorded the commentary track 13 years after the film’s novel release (and he hadn’t seen it since he finished working on it in 1991) .

You’re invited to a very droll wedding featuring amusing men Steve Martin and Martin Short with able help from droll woman Diane Keaton. A palatable update of the 1950’s classic, “Father of the Bride” has a number of moments that ring good for me from my experience with my sister. If you have the previous edition of the movie I don’t know that I can recommend upgrading but if you haven’t purchased until now, Buena Vista Home Video has priced this to travel.

George Banks (Steve Martin) has unbiased heard the words every father dreads. His daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams) has objective announced that she’s getting married to Bryan (George Newbern), a man she met while studying in Europe. While George’s wife Nina (Diane Keaton) is thrilled by the news, George doesn’t handle it well. After all, this means gigantic changes happening in his life. And he doesn’t cope well with change.

So, naturally, he handles this the diagram any dad would. He starts watching “America’s Most Wanted” in case Bryan is on it. And when it comes to planning the wedding, his concept is cheap and informal, powerful to the women’s scare. Will he ever derive with the program? And if he does, will he survive the large day?

This movie isn’t a laugh until it hurts comedy. There are plenty of laugh out loud parts, but the humor is often subtler. While some of George’s antics are definitely over the top and border on embarrassing, the movie manages to accumulate the balance between embarrassment and humor. And the ending it truly touching.

And I can’t say enough about the acting. Everyone is believable. In fact, what makes the movie work is the fact that every one of the characters and actors seems absolutely right. The exception, of course, are Franck and Howard, the over the top wedding coordinators played by Martin Short and B. D. Wong who absolutely occupy every scene they are in.

Whether you’ve gone through a wedding or not, this movie will produce you laugh and touch you. And what more could you want from a wedding, and movie, then that?
