“Thoroughly Fresh Millie” is a reminder that once upon a time in Hollywood singing stars made B-musicals. Here is a classic example from the career of Julie Andrews that reminds us her career was not all mega-hits like “Sound of Music” and super-flops like “Star.” Unfortunately for lovers of musicals Hollywood stopped marking movies like this, leaving singing stars with Olivia Newton-John with a rupture like “Grease” and a bomb like “Xanadu” with nothing in between. I also have fond memories of “Thorough Unique Millie” because it was a movie that was shown to us in class in high school; the reason why we were allowed this privilege is beyond me, unless we were supposed to derive an appreciation of the Roaring Twenties from this film (so why did they exhibit us the fresh version of “The Blob? “) .

Our flapper heroine is Millie Dillmount (Andrews), who has decided to be a “mod” and turned in her long curls for a stylish bob. Her goal in life is to marry her boss and after interviewing several possibilities she hits the jackpot with Trevor Graydon (John Gavin), who hires her as his stenog and calls Millie “John” (as in “Johnny on the status”) . Millie likes young Jimmy (James Fox), who impresses her by inventing a recent dance called the Tapioca and being a swell kisser, but he is awful and Millie has her ambitions. Millie’s best gal-al is Miss Dorothy (Mary Tyler Moore), who is sweet, innocent, and has lots of curls.

However, the life of Millie and her friends are caught between two imposing characters. At the hotel for young women where Millie lives there is Mrs. Meers (Beatrice Lillie), who is always looking out for young girls who are “all alone in the world,” like Miss Dorothy, who could be of utilize to a Chinese White Slavery ring. But Millie also encounters an unstoppable force for life in the person of the irrepressible Muzzy (Carol Channing), who lives the agreeable life at her Long Island “Cottage” estate and pops up at key moments throughout the tale.

The movie is not a huge musical, mainly because it does not have any really large songs (as evidenced by the fact that the fresh Broadway musical has almost entirely unique songs), but it is unexcited broad fun. Director George Roy Hill takes advantage of Andrews’ droll flair and the film has immense fun with her double takes and droll title cards as Millie periodically comments on the proceedings. The movie does utilize stereotypes of the Chinese, but you have to admit these are balanced between the funny relief of Mrs. Meers’ henchmen (Jack Soo and Pat Morita) and the wise old-fashioned Tea (Philip Ahn) .

“Thoroughly Unusual Millie” won an Oscar for music and Channing was nominated for supporting role (she won a Golden Globe for her efforts, were clearly tailored to her style) . But Lillie is a delight as well and I personally relish Gavin’s mock-heroic performance. Moore impartial has to spy sweet, although she does salvage to say a poor word (!), and Fox is charming although clearly too young for Andrews. Unfortunately the debacle of “Star” glowing remarkable derailed Andrews’ musical career in Hollywood, which is a loss because the silly flair she shows here is the same that she showcased in films like “Victor, Victoria” a couple of decades later. The honorable news is that the Broadway expose will bring this film support to the public’s notice; I am certain that is the reason I have spent the morning seek the film on TV.

Julie Andrews. Carol Channing. Mary Tyler Moore. Beatrice Lillie. What a cast!

THOROUGHLY Recent MILLIE (TMM) is a hoot. Director George Roy Hill keeps the inch hasty and the mood light. He has Julie Andrews see into the camera often for silly do. Usually a peaceful movie card is flashed onscreen when she does this, telling the audience Millie’s thoughts (”Her beads hang straight.”)

Buy,Download, Or Stream Thoroughly Modern Millie! Click Here

The characters are broadly drawn, which makes the movie fun. Beatrice Lillie is the arch-villainess, and her severe makeup and beehive hairdo are hilarious. Mary Tyler Moore strikes the apt chord as the virginal Miss Dorothy.

There are several highlights for me: The opening number when Millie changes from ‘plain Jane’ to ‘thoroughly modern’; any time a character has to dance in the tempermental elevator to beget it go up or down; “Jazz Baby” with Carol Channing.

About the disc: The print of TMM doesn’t gape that obliging. The movie was released in 1967, so it’s over 35 years primitive. Some of the special-effects shots (even the wipes and transition scenes) view grainy. The colors could be more vibrant. This is probably the best print in existence, smooth one wishes the quality were better. The sound tended to ‘peak’ in sections too.

TMM fans will be overjoyed to know that the overture and intermission music have been restored.

TMM is a droll, moving, musty film with large performances. Julie Andrews seems to be having a mammoth time vamping it up. Savor it!

If you are a parent of a teenager, a teacher, or a youth minister, or anyone else who works with teens, somehow accept them to witness this. I found it downright chilling and I watched it again correct before I wrote this review.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Frontline: The Merchants of Cool! Click Here

This documentary isn’t about bashing teens. It’s about exposing a very runt number of immense media corporate conglomerates (impartial seeing who ownes who is engrossing) who work around the clock to choose the next “frosty” trend among teens. They watch the teens who are on the cutting edge to decide what the next frosty thing is and then they package whatever it is and mass market it to the general teen audience. Of course, once whatever-it-is goes mainstream, it isn’t icy anymore.

They also spy the strictly average teen, not the tidy gifted or the overachievers, to decide how to advance this population with their marketing. Teens then conform to what they’ve been sold. They rob products with money often given to them by their parents. The media moguls pocket the money, and then try to figure out the next “wintry” thing, and the never ending cycle continues.

I could go on, but I can’t really do justice to what is my current episode of Frontline. I’ve leant my copy to several friends and they’ve all been enlightened to things that they never suspected were happening. Truth is often stranger than fiction. This might have been sci-fi fifty years ago.

The occupy home lesson to me is that being icy sucks. It sucks your brain out of your head and your money out of your wallet. This is legal particularly if you’re trying to catch coolness. It’s best to be who you are and let others choose how cold that is.

If you are a parent of teens, pull the TV cable out of the wall and conclude giving teens money. Acquire them procure it.

Finally, be certain to obtain the movie “Josie and the Pussycats” to survey the same subject dealt with in a fun and satirical diagram.

This film exposes some of the marketing techniques primitive on young people.

I’m jubilant to read that another reviewer shows it to his students each year.

Another teacher who showed it to her class was less impressed with the response it received from some students who concept it was dated. There are some more modern documentaries on this philosophize from the Media Education Foundation, but this Frontline presentation is a profitable set to open.

I learned in the film The Corporation that some psychologists hired by the corporate world work to accomplish a high “nag factor,” that is an intense pressuring from kids on parents to assume particular items for them. The techniques are many, and are constantly extinct on adults as well. Another related field to marketing is public relations. PR’s founder, Edward Bernays, wrote a book called Propaganda, that was utilized by Joseph Goebbels during the rise of fascism. Bernays, a nephew of Sigmund Freud, boasted that “If we understand the mechanism and motives of the group mind, it is now possible to control and regiment the masses according to our will without their brilliant it.”

To counter all of this propaganda, I’d suggest the following resources:

Adbusters – Adbusters also offers items for teachers to exhaust in the classroom.

Hopefully there will someday be magazines that aren’t manipulating boys and young men in the service of corporate interests.

Well, if anyone thinks we are in an age of “no-holds-barred” cinema these days, try imagining a Hollywood producer’s reaction to a exploitation comedy site about 2 guys who drug and kidnap women, and terrorize them with justify theatrics to catch their sexual kicks. Their scenarios involve a phantom-of-the-opera type, an “Indian sacrifice” and, best of all, a ludicrous, made-up fascist organization. Of course it is all ridiculous and the farthest thing from truly hateful, but it is distinct to offend some humorless individuals.

“Satan’s Bed” is more historically than hysterically comical. I’ve heard this film referred to as an “underground art film” in reference to Yoko’s later career, when it is anything but that. It’s a typical exploitation “roughie”, with the scrumptious Ms. Ono playing a mail-order-bride who doesn’t direct considerable English, so no really crazy dialogue from Yoko. She does stammer to herself briefly in one scene, but none of her later trademark shrieking, chirping or dry-heaving is evident, unfortunately.

The extras are a great selection of trailers and short subjects, the most necessary being a 40 puny yarn of a NYC prostitute which is sleazy and oddly compelling at the same time.

A double bill of appalling inadequacy. Even taking into anecdote the arty pretensions, and the ‘freedoms’ the swinging sixties supposedly afforded, it’s composed difficult to define the time and grief discharged to effect these disgraces out in the world.

I’d looked forward to seeing ‘Satan’s Bed’ for years, Yoko in it and all that. I belief it’d be well-behaved for a giggle if nothing else but apart from a lustrous comb-over, ‘Satan’s Bed’ is the cinema equivalent of flushing drains.

People (I wont say actors) fair stand around like children in a school play – wooden as beams. The only indication that the disc isn’t stuck, is their eyes wildly flickering from side to side as they vainly try to locate some sort of direction.

Ed Wood is Orson Welles compared to this.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Scare Their Pants Off / Satan’s Bed! Click Here

The status? Well it’s inexplicably in two threads. The first is Yoko, looking quite cute I have to say, getting kidnapped so the nasties can persuade her fiance to continue selling drugs for them. She escapes, and we are ‘treated’ to an ending which is so depressing it makes ‘Henry; Portrait of a Serial Killer’ peer like Disney.

The second is Mr. Comb-over and a couple of cronies breaking into peoples apartments and pulling off violent robberies to a blaring and deeply annoying jazz soundtrack. They never meet Yoko and one of them, a pathetically homicidal lesbian, takes mammoth delight in stripping off at every opportunity to try and ’seduce’ the (invariably female) irate householders.

I converse in blood to you this synopsis is far more sharp than the film. It sounds grotesque fun good? Disagreeable.

It’s station in a kind of Warhollian monochrome world where people stand around impartial gay to have a job that doesn’t stretch them. Long ambivalent silences…loud jazz. Uncommon camera angles.. loud jazz.. a slay! Oh, has something happened? Ogle what I mean? It’s difficult to tell the crass ineptness of the proceedings, and I’m not one who usually struggles in that department. This would defeat even the most resilient, stout-hearted reviewer.

‘Scare Their Pants Off’ (splutter!) is the ‘bonus’ film. And it’s as badly acted and insensible as it’s title suggests. It’s so terrible it makes ‘Satan’s Bed’ peruse like ‘Gone With the Wind’.

Briefly, it’s about two kinky guys who assume it’s a jolly jape to horror big-breasted floosies by dressing up as a} the Phantom of the Opera, b} an Indian guru (!? ) and c} Nazi’s.

Drugging their hapless victims (though it’s hard to suppose), kidnapping them, and dragging them off to a plot of panic – a lounge with shadowy curtains – there to gaze on each other as they try to terrify said captives into depravity and submission, all off-screen.

What you can hear of the dialogue is dreadful. The Phantom of the Opera in particular is flinch inducing. Unpleasant Lon Chaney must be spinning in his grave, his dialogue was better than this!(!)

As with ‘SB’ the acting is non-existent, our two heroes do a profitable line in sweaty leering and that’s it (although to be elegant, that IS 70% of the film) . They’ve unashamedly got one glance on the clock throughout…

On reflection, I realize that I might have made this disc behold quite delicious to terrible movie aficionados. I can only apologize for this, it was not my blueprint and my objective advice is; don’t. Stick with Al Adamson and ‘Fall of the Louse of Usher’ coz these babies here are not sick enough or daft enough to raise even a smirk.

They both harbor arty pretensions, but in reality have nothing ‘deep’ or profound to yell, and in the bare-minimum entertainment stakes, they fail.

Painfully and desperately.

The box makes a gigantic deal of ‘Yoko in a Kimono!’, and so it should. Yoko’s kimono is the highlight of the disc.

Certainly, my plan is subjective because I like this sort of fare, amusing and all. “Graveyard Shift” is indeed the weakest one, made interesting by the awful acting of all fervent. “Pet Sematary” is also badly acted, though Fred Gwynne is on hand to set aside worthy of it. It’s one of King’s more mean-spirited plots, and if there was humor alive to (as the extras purport), I missed most of it. “Silver Bullet” is an queer film, a rather sweet coming-of-age film with a twist. I enjoyed it more than I view I would. (Even Corey Haim was almost tolerable.) And, of course, the special edition of “The Stupid Zone” stands design above the rest. Gorgeous acting and direction attend derive its plot among the best King films. Build it for last…OK, some are amusing and mindless, but I like most dread films for that very reason. This collection has the added succor of a couple of winners. The widescreen transfer is worthy. The trace is profitable. I recommend it…all 4 are accurate to King, inasmuch as they all grasp spot in Maine.

This is an indispensable Stephen King collection…a lot of his earlier works..well worth the notice if you like Stephen King

This movie is huge! Even though I’ve only seen it in Japanese with English subtitles as of yet, I loved it! (It’ll be unbiased as superb, if not better, in English) . About the movie: first of all, neither it nor any of the other 2 movies currently released in Japan have to do with the tv episodes. The legend is completely different. I’d say this movie takes state after at least the 54th episode though, after Inuyasha has already learned the Backlash Wave. In the movie, a demon from China called Matenmaru (another moth demon like Gatenmaru) tricks Inuyasha into using Tetsusaiga to smash the seal on his “inheritance”–his family’s powers–making him invincible (he was already immortal before his ultimate powers were unleashed) . Now, it is up to Inuyasha and company to defeat him! In addition to lots of action, there are also some touching moments between Inuyasha and Kagome in this movie. ;) Any fan of the tv exhibit is obvious to worship this movie!!! (By the arrangement, the second movie is colossal too–Inuyasha and Kagome KISS in it!! however, they only kiss once, and briefly, and this does not affect their relationship in the episodes at all.)

Good inconvenience. Okay, for one, don’t listen to all that garbage down there(metalwhatever29, etc…) . They’re impartial extremely bored because they have no lives and short attention spans-they clearly strayed away from the main subject. Seriously, guys… We’re talking about THIS dvd, and reviewing IT. Not your dead subjective conception on an entire anime series. You probably go to the InuYasha key-chains and bash on those too. Pathetic…

Buy,Download, Or Stream Inuyasha, The Movie 1 – Affections Touching Across Time! Click Here

Anyway, for people who are fervent in this dvd:

If you really relish Inuyasha, then you will like this movie. I’ll truthfully say, it’s not better than the 2nd or 3rd(the best one in my book!) movie, but it IS the very first Inuyasha movie and that makes it special in it’s enjoy design. For those of you who appreciate to gape them, there are a few classic Inuyasha and Kagome moments in this movie you don’t want to miss. Actually, this is the first thing I ever watched of Inuyasha when they showed it on cartoon network, and I was totally absorbed. So if your a fan or a newcomer, I would definitely suggest to add this to your Inuyasha collection.

I don’t know why such a large company would release such a poor product! This DVD is missing the first episode of the recent three volume mini-series. The first episode is depicted as a mere prologue to the remaining two episodes. The recent Japanese language track is non-existant. As a edifying fan of the series, I was highly disappointed. Dangaioh fans conclude away!

what was the point of releasing this share of… well you know what i mean. why bother if you aren’t going to explain the first episode?! then there wouldn’t be any need for a prologue that was honest contrivance to long and stupid to inaugurate with. i belief i would topple asleep before the damn thing even started. i am seriously disappointed, since i watched it a very long time ago and have been waiting forever for them to finally re-release this title. that they would do so small justice to it is impartial pitiful.

not to mention the fact that you can’t even witness it in japanese with english subtitles. although it was fun to observe it with the english dub… i don’t mediate i can remember the last time i heard so considerable swearing.

Thackeray’s “Vanity Exquisite” is such a sprawling, gigantic example of the Victorian modern that any mere two-hour movie adaptation will be forced to leave out crucial elements. As it is, this six-hour BBC film version emits definite items (Jos Sedley’s ultimate fate, the James Crawley episode), but is remarkably faithful to its source. Indeed, a television mini-series is the best diagram to adapt such a work, allowing the sage to unfold and the viewer to become eager with the various characters.

This production is amazing, with radiant costumes, ample performances, and a stunning script. Chief among its attractions is Natasha Cramped in the key role of Becky Absorbing. Miss Runt is not only luminously shapely, but manages to madden our sympathies toward a virtually unsympathetic character. Special mention must also go to Jeremy Swift, whose portrayal of bumbling Jos Sedley is a delight. Miriam Margolyes (always astounding) and Eleanor Bron appear in secondary roles. The rest of the cast is well-chosen and all play their parts with conviction.

The greatest hurdle a filmed version of “Vanity Handsome” faces is how to inform the many shifts of tone which Thackeray goes through in the original. This plight has been solved by exercise of an fresh earn, which draws from such diverse sources as military marching bands, Strauss waltzes (putrid for the period but who cares? ), and a bit of Kurt Weill. Murray Gold’s get never lets us forget that we are in the world of Thackeray’s biting satire, and not Jane Austen’s more shapely world of comedy-of-manners.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Vanity Fair! Click Here

All told, it will prefer a long time before this film treatment is bettered.

It would be hard for a movie to do justice to Thackeray’s astounding original VANITY Dazzling, but it is positive that this awesome 5 hour version is every bit as excellent. I bought the whole space of tapes as soon as I heard they were coming out, and esteem them. Every time I survey them, I derive so interested in the characters that I can’t wait to study the next episode. I always laugh at the great, witty comedy that brings the film to life, and at other times I have to weep, for example the radiant scene when Dobbin finally admits to Amelia that he is in appreciate with her, or when Amelia has to send her son to go live with his grandfather because she is too unpleasant to hold care of him…The film is excellently done, with lavish sets and costumes. I fetch all of the actors to be incredible, Natasha Dinky in particular plays the tricky role of Becky to the hilt, so that we are simultaneously rooting for her and wishing she’ll catch what’s coming to her. Microscopic finds the factual mixture of sympathy and wickedness to bewitch Becky. Also, Miriam Margolyes is absolutely hysterical as the outspoken Miss Crawley, constantly laughing, eating, gossipping, flirting, moaning about her aches and anxiety, talking with her mouth plump, and stabbing her friends in the back–she’s like Becky, minus the table manners. Many peole have complained about the musical gather, but I judge it was fantastic. The employ of mainly brass instruments is friendly, and the horns blare with an horrible charm impartial at the suitable moments. They are unbiased the true touch, adding to the movie’s boldness. The only thing that upset me was that in almost every shot, the heads of the main characters are always gash off–it’s so annoying! Luckily, the movie is so piquant that often we forget about it, but once you inaugurate noticing all the badly framed shots it becomes obsessive! Also, the cinematography is grainy at times, especially in the darker scenes. And I felt that the momentous confrontation between Becky, Rawdon, and Lord Steyne could have been better executed…but oh, well. The rest is too gracious to complain about. The film is charming, injurious, and very radiant while quiet containing its dusky moments such as Mr. Osborne insanely destroying every rememberance of his son, or a later scene when Osborne stares in desperation at his grandson with a mixture of sadness, loathing, and concern for his beget tiresome son–it’s fair indescribable. Obviously, it’s difficult to sight the film unless you capture the whole station of tapes or borrow them from someone, but if you are eager in seeing it, it is well worth the money spent on the whole plot of tapes.

I always loved this reveal, even when the broadcast schedule became erratic after 1997 and I had to promenade it all over the schedule and from network to network. Robert Stack – Elliot Ness himself – was the definitive host, and is irreplacable in the role he had. There were really two forces at work here that made the prove a success. First, the producers of the prove didn’t assign every backwoods memoir that came across their desks on the air. They tried to document events and stories that could have happened. Second, Robert Stack was a huge host, his trenchcoat-clad presence and dignified and loyal narration bringing respectability to each segment. Thus, no matter how astounding something might appear on paper, it was presented as something that a rational person could hold was possible. Here is a brief synopsis of the 25-disc set:

“Unsolved Mysteries: Hidden Like” examining tales of lost fortune. 1 disc.

The first six DVD-sets that are fragment of this release have been previously released separately. The “Hidden Adore” disc appears to be current material.

I want to begin by stating that I possess A LOT of tv shows on DVD. This collection is my well-liked out of all of them! I can sit and look these for hours and never obtain tired of watching. I judge the charm of “Unsolved Mysteries” lies in it’s host…Robert Stack. He sets the mood for every account. The position itself is effect together very well. It covers all of the DVD’s that were released on their enjoy and an added feature of 5 recent Ghost Stories and 5 Lost Esteem Stories. If you loved “Unsolved Mysteries” then this is the ultimate collection for you! I only hope that they release more someday!

I am not generally an Adam Sandler fan, but this film really surprised me. I liked it very great, and the music venerable brought abet a lot of capable memories. He plays a down on his luck wedding singer that is left at the alter, and when he meets Julia played by Drew Barrymore, sparks waft. I was very surprised by the chemistry Sandler and Barrymore have on cover. A romance with a proper amount of comedy mixed in is the perfect formula.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Wedding Singer! Click Here

This was one of Adam’s breakthrough films before pointless blockbusters like “Waterboy” and “Great Daddy”. While those films have a few comic moments and are OK, this one is very cleaver and showcases Sandler as a human being rather than objective some insensible hick or impartial some loud bastard.

“The Wedding Singer” is about Robbie Hart, an average guy, that lives a simple suburban life with a hot fiancée and a chilly gig in the mid eighties. Life is expansive until his lady dumps him. He’s crushed and his career as a weeding singer goes down the toilet as he sinks into a depression that includes listening to The Cure. Sounds like a astronomical depression. Anyway, a young girl named Julie (Drew Barrymore) helps him to gain his life attend together. The only plight is that she is engaged to a smug yuppie loser. So what’s going to happen. Well, like in most eighties comedies, the hero will try to derive over the girl even if it takes the support of Billy Idol!

Not the most novel fable in the world, and the chemistry is only OK between Drew and Adam, but its really all the eighties jokes that compose this film so very laughable. People have niches and dress in styles. People dress up like “characters” like Madonna, Don Johnson, Boy George and even the guy from Flock of Seagulls. The combination of an awesome soundtrack and ’80s clichés, not to mention spacious acting (Steve Buschemi’s cameo steals the present) get the film a winner. Adam can really act like a normal romantic and this movie proves it. Too abominable so many people pick him as a moron. Comedy lovers and Sandler fanatics unite and select this film.

I HAD READ THE OTHER REVIEWS AND DECIDED TO Consume A CHANCE. IT IS A SOFTCORE PORN WITH ALOT OF NUDITY AND ITS Big Shrimp MUSICAL BUT THERE IS TWO PARTS WHERE YOU CAN Shriek SEX TOYS ARE ARE Worn IN PLACES FOR MALE APENDAGES, AND YOU CAN Converse BY THE Witness OF THE ACTORS THAT A CHANGE HAS ACCOURD WHEN THE Trusty SEX SCENCE Commence. OTHER THAN THAT I LIKED IT
